Must See US Trailer for ‘A Poet’ – Funky Dark Comedy from Colombia

“Do you also live in profound sadness?” “No.” 1-2 Special has unveiled their official trailer for the terrific indie film titled Un Poeta, or A Poet in English, a Colombian film from filmmaker Simón Mesa Soto as his second feature. This first premiered at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival earlier this year and it was one of my favorite films at that fest. It’s hilarious. A fading poet named Oscar finds purpose mentoring Yurlady, a talented teen, though exposing her to the poetry scene might be unwise. His own years of poetic pursuits led nowhere, leaving him a stereotypical obscure writer. “Aging and erratic, he has succumbed to the cliché of the poet in the shadows.” But that changes when he meets her… Starring Ubeimar Rios as Oscar, Rebeca Andrade as Yurlady, and Guillermo Cardona as Efrain. A kooky, funky, dark comedy about how our best intentions might not lead to the best results. And how sometimes pursuing art isn’t really the best path for everyone.
