We spend a lot of time in chairs. Especially if you game as a hobby. So you want something comfortable, and preferably something that won’t decimate your backbone in the process. The Flexispot Swivel Rocker Recliner Lotus sets out to both give you a chair that’s great or sit in, and also give you a few handy tech touches.

So, we decided to take a look and test it out. Here’s what I found!

Assembly

The Lotus arrived in two parts. (Something I foolishly did not realize until I’d opened the first part and realized I had one chair base and no top bit, which arrived the next day.)

The assembly looked a little daunting, especially when I saw the complicated workings under the base (and felt how heavy it was), but it turned out to be relatively straightforward. I was able to do it more or less on my own, but I would say two people would be much easier, as the base is quite heavy, and fastening the leg rest involved turning it on one end, which felt a little bit perilous solo.

Still, it was not hard or super involved. I was surprised there were only about four different screws involved, and those attach the footrest. The back slides into the frame of the base, and everything else joins together with thick velcro strips. This worried me a little when I first saw it, as I was immediately sceptical about how well this would hold together, but we’ll get to that later.

The whole thing was done relatively fast, if with a bit of heavy lifting. While the chair felt pretty huge in pieces, by the time it was fitted together, it didn’t feel especially large in the room.

Comfort

So, the most important thing when it comes to a chair, is the Flexispot Swivel Rocker Recliner Lotus comfortable? Absolutely. It’s an extremely comfy chair. I had the model with the fabric cover, and found the cushions very soft and pleasant to both sit or lie on.

In the interests of scientific rigor, I also opted to try out sleeping on it for a night. I am pleased to report that I slept great. It would make it a potential option for a spare spot for someone to sleep at short notice.

The Lotus is a chair with no armrests. When I first read this, I wondered how I’d feel about that, as someone whose computer chair always has its arms up as high as possible.

Now, if you are someone who wants (or, for spinal trouble, needs) to sit straight, the Lotus probably isn’t a good fit for you. Even when it’s in the upright position, the back is definitely pretty relaxed. I found it pretty comfy for sitting with my laptop on my lap.

The model I tried was the fabric model in grey, which had a pleasant feel to it. The cover was neither scratchy nor cheap-feeling and seem to hold up well enough to use.

I suspect that my dog was also quite impressed by the Lotus. I did find a few bits of black fur left on the seat one or two times in the morning. (He admits to nothing.) Fortunately, ir doesn’t seem to cling a lot, so it was an easy fix. (Dog has since decided he likes the old armchair best, as he’s not sure how he feels about the swivelling, which suits both of us.)

Features

The review model I got my hands on was the electric model, so it came with some extra features. In the case of the electric version, the reclining park is driven by a couple of buttons set into the side of the chair.

The moving parts of the chair will only move while you are actively holding down the button, though, as it’s on the side of a chair that spins, I occasionally knocked it against something that would set the button off.

On that note, it spins! And rocks around on its base. The result is a little surprising when you start. It’s not something I’d experienced in a recliner before, but it was pleasant, and as a chronic fidgeter, bouncing back and forth quickly became a habit.

Also important, given our remit, were the tech features. The Lotus comes with two charging ports, a USB A and a USB C, which cover a lot of bases in terms of powering your devices. They sit next to the reclining buttons on the side of the chair, and come in handy if you want to plug in a phone or tablet while using it.

Some models also come with a holder, which anchors next to the chargers. The model I was using was without the holder feature, but I could see it coming in handy if you were keen on mobile gaming, or watching videos on your phone while reclining.

Finally, on the major list of features is the storage pocket, which slides out on the opposite side. It’s a good place to leave stuff while you’re sitting in the chair, but it closes pretty close to the frame. I suspect you couldn’t keep that much in it while it’s closed.

Downsides

I like the Lotus a lot. It has taken a place of honor in my living room, and I intend to keep it there for the foreseeable future. There are a few things you should consider before buying, though.

The main thing you might want to keep in mind is that it’s not that easy to move around. Because the chair both swivels and rocks on the base, it’s next to impossible to find anywhere on the chair itself to get a good handhold on to move it around. The most effective method I found was to grab the metal ring of the base and push that, but it’s not necessarily easy to do.

Another pretty minor nitpick was that the open/close on the little storage pocket was kind of temperamental. It would fall open pretty much at random. This didn’t really annoy me to any major degree, though.

The Verdict

All in all, the minor hiccups were absolutely minor ones. The Flexispot Swivel Rocker Recliner Lotus is a really nice chair. If you want something you can relax in that comes with some nice little techie features for your convenience, while not having an explicitly ‘gamer’ aesthetic, then you should give this one a look.
