What Are Impression Checks?

If you’ve ever played Dungeons and Dragons, or even Baldur’s Gate, you’ll be familiar with the mechanic. An Impression Check rolls the Dice, and if the number of the two Dice combined is equal to or above the requirement, you pass the check! If it is below the required number, you fail the check.

To get Dice, you can forge them with collected materials or obtain them as a reward for completing quests. Passing an Impression Check means you can unlock a specific dialogue option with an NPC. If you have plenty of spare Dice in your inventory, you can reroll as many times as you want until you pass the check.

Unlocking new dialogue isn’t the only reward you get for passing an Impression Check, as you also obtain resources such as Secret Letter Clues. Plus, new quests are available once you pass Impression Checks and level up your Impression stat in general.

How to Pass an Impression Checks

Now, you don’t just need Dice and luck on your side to pass the Impression Checks. Your Impression stat is an important part of unlocking dialogue, which you need to level up as you play the game. Upgrading your Impression stat is easy enough, though you need to speak to quite a few NPCs to do so. These can either be NPCs who are just standing around or those who are part of any quests you work through.

There are 5 different Impressions to take into account:

Empathy
Empathise with the NPC you’re speaking with
Benefit
Gain an advantage during the dialogue
Morality
Follow your morals (good morals, at that)
Wisdom
Be knowledgeable and show that you have plenty of experience
Chaos
Be rude to NPCs
