“Selena was bigger than what she thought she was.” Netflix has revealed the trailer for a documentary film titled Selena y Los Dinos, made by filmmaker Isabel Castro as her second feature after Mija. This doc first premiered at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival and played at SXSW, Hot Docs, AFI Fest, and will be out to watch in November. Selena y Los Dinos celebrates the life and legacy of the Queen of Tejano, Selena Quintanilla, who along with her family performed, triumphed, and redefined genres, captured in never-before-seen footage from the family’s personal archive. It’s also the tragic true story of what happened to her – she was shot and killed at the age of 23 by her friend and the former manager of her Selena Etc. boutiques. Her story has been told before: in 1997, Warner Bros made Selena starring a then-unknown Jennifer Lopez; and in 2020, Netflix released Selena: The Series starring Christian Serratos. This doc celebrates her life and successes above all. “Whether a lifelong fan or just discovering Selena, Castro offers an intimate new lens to experience Selena’s legacy and a reason to want to belt out ‘Como la Flor.'” Definitely looks like a good one. // Continue Reading ›
