I love cosy games, and whether you want to find the next best one to play, or you simply want to find out more about this upcoming title, I’m here to give you a Starsand Island Preview on everything you can expect. I also had the honor of playing Starsand Island at the Tokyo Game Show earlier this year. You can find out all about it by checking out my Gamezebo and Seed Lab at the Tokyo Game Show 2025 feature!
Everything a Cosy Game Should Have, and More!
In this upcoming title, you leave your city life behind and return to Starsand Island. Revamp your Grandfather’s cabin and farm, meet the locals, fish, raise animals, and explore the town. Everyone has different gameplay preferences, and Starsand Island has something for everyone.
That’s where mentors come in! Mentors allow you to choose a profession to help you get better at it. Choose from farming, crafting, raising animals, fishing, and exploration. Personally, I was torn between crafting, fishing, and exploration. But alas, I went for (drumroll please), crafting! Perhaps the mentor was the one who swayed me…
Ride in Style
When you aren’t busy revamping the island, you can explore. I was blown away by the detail in which the game is set. With a forest, beach, and town to explore, you’ll always find NPCs to speak to and secrets to discover.
It’s a lot of land to cover, though. Luckily, there are a variety of vehicles you can obtain to help you travel in style and speed. There are skateboards, scooters, speedboats, and tons more options to choose from.
Craft It!
I hope my bias isn’t showing, as I did choose the crafting profession… but crafting is a huge part of gameplay. It adds personalisation and charm, allowing you to make things your very own. There are over one hundred furniture items available, and furniture sets that are available from showrooms or the store.
Speaking of making things personal, a house isn’t a home without a pet, right? Meet a variety of creatures ranging from caoybaras, squirrels, cats, and more, who you can bond with and adopt.
You can play the demo right now over on Steam. If you’re looking for other titles to play, we have an Upcoming Indie Games on Steam feature for some of our top choices.
