After progressing through the Carnevale by avoiding Kin and Mini Kin, and reaching the Hot Air Balloon, Low and Alone will reach the Institute. It is the fourth and final chapter of the story, where players have to deal with more challenges. In this guide, we will walk you through Chapter 4: The Institute in Little Nightmares 3.
Chapter 4: The Institute Walkthrough – Little Nightmares 3
As the lightning strikes the Hot Air Balloon at the end of Chapter 3, a brief cutscene will play. You will get to see more of Low trapped in a cell. After the cutscene, Low and Alone will wake up at a shore outside the Institute building. Make your way inside the building by going through a hole in the wall.
Get Past the Plants
Open the door on the right and go down the hallway. Pull the plank on the right, and you will spot a plant in the room. The Plant will open and close its mouth. If you get close to the plant, it will kill you. To get past it, Low needs to shoot an arrow at its mouth while it’s open. After killing the plant, go to the wall in front and call Alone to break it using the wrench.
Continue ahead and go through the window to the next hallway. The floor of this hallway will be broken. Low and Alone need to grab the pipe on the right to cross ahead. However, there will be another plant across the gap. Low needs to stay at the edge of the gap, and Alone needs to grab onto the pipe and cross. As soon as the plant opens its mouth, Low needs to shoot an arrow to kill it. Now, cross to the other side and go to the room on the left.
Get Past the Blind Doctor
In the next room, you will encounter a blind doctor. If you walk or run in the room, he will chase and catch you. You need to sneak past the doctor by crouching. To do it correctly, break the bottle at the right corner by shooting an arrow at it. As the doctor begins to come to the noise, sneak past the pet door on the left side. Push through the pet door to leave the room.
Now, call Alone to hit the gong in the hallway. It will make the giant leg move from the hallway. Continue ahead and pull the lever on the left to call the elevator. Enter the elevator and pull the lever inside to go up. Head down the hallway to spot a fuse switch for the door on the right.
Find the Fuse for the Door
Push the trolley underneath the window on the left and climb through it. Keep heading left, and you will come across a cell door. Climb the table and go through the vent on the top. It is the same cell from Low’s visions. Now, open the compartment on the left wall. An oddly familiar doll will drop from the compartment. It is a special doll, as it depicts the institute before everything bad happened there. You need to hold this doll and go around the floor to find the fuse.
Pick up the doll and leave the cell. Continue to the right and throw the doll outside a window by standing on a seesaw. Go out of the room and pick up the doll again. Go ahead in the hallway and enter the room on the left. Pull the lever in the room to open the next door. Continue inside the room and go to the far-left side to find a fuse machine. Pull the lever beside the machine to get a fuse.
Now, one character needs to hold the doll and the other needs to hold the fuse. Exit the room and pull the lever again to open the door to the hallway. Once you are in the hallway, leave the doll. Now, go to the door in front of the one you just came out of to make your way back to the fuse switch. Plug the fuse into the switch and pull the trolley underneath the lever. Get up the trolley and pull the lever to open the door.
Escape the Giant Hand
Continue to the right to enter another hallway. As you begin to pull the plank, an encounter with a giant hand will begin. Hide underneath the desk in the next room and wait for the hand to rest on the floor. After that, crouch walk to the lever on the right to open the door. Sprint through the next hallway and be careful of the broken floor.
Make your way to the end of the hallway and squeeze through the gap on the left side. Step on the glass floor and call Alone to break the glass with the wrench.
Get the Key to the Locked Door
After the Hand leaves, continue to the left side and make your way up the staircase. You will come across a door with a lock. Open the door on the right and go ahead to see a lady with the key to the door. Moreover, there will be a plant next to the shelf. You need to distract the lady towards the shelf so that the plant kills the lady. Low needs to shoot an arrow at the glass bottle on the floor to distract the lady.
As the plant attacks the lady, run to the right and pick up the key from the floor. Now, make your way back to the door and use the key.
Use the Special Doll
Pull the handle above the table in the hallway to open a door. Go down the hallway to find the special doll again. Pick up the doll and go up the hallway to cross through the broken floor. Go inside the door on the right to enter another cell. Continue through the vent and leave the doll in the next room.
Sneak Past the Crowd
In the next room, you will witness a wandering crowd. Crouch walk alongside the top wall to make your way to the right. As you enter a room with a woman, quietly drop down into the vent in the room to get past her. Continue to the right, and you will come out to an outdoor area. You will see the Hand in the background. Jump on the cushion in the water to cross ahead. Keep heading right until you reach another hallway.
Escape the Psychiatrist
As you enter the hallway, another chase encounter will begin. Run down the hallway and jump to the room on the right. Here, you will get to see the face of the psychiatrist for the first time. The psychiatrist will try to crush you underneath his hand, and Low needs to shoot an arrow at the eye on the hand during the QTE.
After this encounter, continue to the right and climb up to the higher floor. Once you are in another hallway, climb up the table and pull down the lever to open the door. Keep hanging on the lever and let Alone go inside the room. Call Alone to break the wall from inside the room for Low. Go to the right and make your way to the elevator.
After coming down from the elevator, run down the hallway and go to the room on the right. Climb the ladder and go through the vent. Now, go to the room at the end to initiate a cutscene.
Defeat the Psychiatrist
As the cutscene ends, another chase sequence with the Psychiatrist will begin. The psychiatrist will chase you down through various halls and rooms. Keep on sprinting and jump over the gaps to make your way to a room with a gong. Call Alone to strike the gong to disrupt the psychiatrist. The room will start to collapse, so sprint to the right and continue along the path to enter a room with a mirror.
After a brief cutscene, the psychiatrist will attack again. During this attack, the room will start to break, and various things will begin to fall. You must move aside from the falling things to avoid death. Moreover, the psychiatrist will get stuck among the debris. During this time, a gong behind some planks will drop. Remove the planks to make way for Alone to hit it. After that, Low needs to shoot an arrow at the eye on the hand.
More debris will start to drop in the room. Avoid the debris and wait for the second gong to drop into the room. Strike the second gong to disrupt the psychiatrist again. The eye on the hand will open again, so shoot another arrow at it. It will make the psychiatrist’s face fall into the room. Alone needs to hit the cracked glasses, and Low needs to shoot an arrow at the eye.
It will initiate a cutscene. After the cutscene, walk over to the final mirror to initiate the final cutscene. The credits will roll, concluding the main story of Little Nightmares 3.
