Dying Light: The Beast offers a wide variety of weapons for Kyle to use against the zombies in Castor Woods. The weapons come in different rarities, including common, rare, epic, and legendary. One of the best weapons in Dying Light: The Beast is the Hunting Crossbow. It is an Epic ranged weapon and deals high damage to foes with various crossbow bolts. In this guide, we will tell you how to get the Hunting Crossbow, an Epic Ranged Weapon in Dying Light: The Beast.

How to Get the Hunting Crossbow in Dying Light: The Beast

The Hunting Crossbow weapon unlocks as a reward for completing the “Hunting Yaga” Side mission for Max. This side mission becomes available upon securing the Abandoned House (Safe Zone) in the National Park region. It is located on the eastern side of the National Park. After securing the Abandoned House, sleep on the bed to pass the time, and you will see Max sitting in the backyard. Speak with Max to initiate the Hunting Yaga side mission.

NOTE: Players can activate this mission at any point in the game. However, it is recommended that you pursue the Hunting Yaga mission at least Level 11.

If you try to pursue this mission at an early Level, it will be much difficult for you, even on the Story difficulty. It is best to farm XP to level up and get a few legendary weapons, so that you can keep up with the fights. Alternatively, if you have a high-level friend, join up with them for the quest. This way, you can get the Hunting Crossbow at an early level.

Hunting Yaga Side Mission and Important Choices

Getting the Hunting Crossbow will require you to complete the Hunting Yaga side mission with a crucial choice. Below, you can find a brief overview of the mission, alongside the main choices.

Investigate for Yaga in the forest

After initiating the quest, wait until nightfall, and make your way to the marked location on the map. Once there, investigate the body and use the survival scan ability to track the footprints of Yaga. Keep following the tracks until you find Yaga.

Hunt down Yaga

Yaga is a faster zombie with high mobility. It is best to wait for its lunging attack to let it get close to you and then hit it a few times. Make sure that you dodge its lunging attack and then hit it with hard strikes. Moreover, while fighting Yaga, regular zombies will also spawn, so be careful of them. After defeating Yaga, loot its body to get Yaga’s Trophy.

Find Max

Now, go to the meeting spot to see a bunch of Baron’s soldiers at the spot. Eliminate the soldiers and go to the back of the hut. Move the wooden board to enter the hut and speak with Max.

Find the Scientist

Use the survival scan ability to follow the tire tracks of a vehicle. Keep following the tracks until you reach an area with Baron’s Soldiers. Eliminate the enemies and interact with the door to trigger a cutscene.

Here, you will get two choices: “Take the Bribe” or “Kill the Scientist”. The smart choice here is the “Take the Bribe”, as it will give you an additional 500 Old World Money. If you choose to kill the scientist, you will have to defeat some more soldiers.

Get Back to Max

After dealing with the Scientist, go back to the Abandoned House to find Max. Unfortunately, he will be dead regardless of your choice with the scientist. As the cutscene ends, the Hunting Yaga quest will conclude, and you will get the Hunting Crossbow.
