Hollow Knight: Silksong offers several useful tools to assist Hornet in fights throughout the adventure. Hornet can have up to four different tools, including offensive and defensive tools, at a time and use them simultaneously to get through difficult fights. The offensive tools have a Red Slot symbol, and the defensive tools have a Blue Slot symbol. One of the best defensive tools to get early is the Fractured Mask. How to Get the Fractured Mask Tool in Hollow Knight: Silksong
The Fractured Mask Tool is sold by Mottled Skarr (merchant) in the Hunter’s March area for 260 Rosaries. It is one of the early game areas in the game that players can access through the Marrow area. However, the Mottled Skarr is a hidden merchant in Hunter’s March, and reaching him will require the Hornet to have Swift Step, Drifter’s Cloak, and Cling Grip abilities. This means players must first get all of these abilities and then go back to Hunter’s March to locate the merchant.
Path to the Mottled Skarr Merchant in Hunter’s March
Reaching the Mottled Skarr merchant requires a long run, as there is no bench to access in Hunter’s March without the Swift Step and Drifter’s Cloak abilities. We will tell you the path from the bench right below the Hunter’s March Guardian mini-boss in The Marrow.
From the bench, go out of the room and make your way to the entrance of the Hunter’s March area.
Continue right and pogo off the red flower to go ahead.
Keep going right and pogo off the red flowers to make your way up and then to the right.
Continue to the right to enter another room and eventually into a room where you fight several enemies alongside Shakra.
After the fight, head right and take the lower path. Sprint to the end to avoid getting hit by the traps.
Make your way to the next room, and you will come across a wind gust. Jump into the wind and use the cloak to fly up.
As you are flying up, go to the room on the left to come across a bench, but do not sit on it yet. Go to the left of the bench to enter a small hidden room and attack the cogs to free the bench from the trap. Now, you can rest on the bench to get a checkpoint.
Head back outside and fly up to the second platform and go to the left side.
In this room, you will see a lot of barrels filled with shards. Go close to the left wall and jump to enter a hidden pathway behind the leaves.
Make a jump ahead and avoid the traps. Continue ahead, and for the final jump, cling to the wall to reach the merchant.
Speak to Mottled Skarr and Purchase the Fractured Mask
After reaching the Mottled Skarr merchant, speak to him and go through the dialogue to view his shop. He will be selling three items, including Curveclaw (offensive tool), Fractured Mask (defensive tool), and a Shard Bundle. The Fractured Mask will cost you 260 Rosaries.
Once you have the fractured mask, return to the bench and add it to a Blue Slot of the crest. Upon equipping the fractured mask, Hornet’s last mask will be covered by another mask. This allows Hornet to take another hit before dying. If you haven’t got an extra mask (health) by this point, the Fractured Mask really helps.
