How to Catch Sharks in 99 Nights in the Forest
Before learning how to catch sharks, you should have a fundamental understanding of how fishing as a mechanic works in the game. All fish types spawn in different pools, which correspond to your campfire level, and the colour and details of the body of water.
Sharks in particular, spawn in two pond types:
Algal Ponds
Campfire Level: Level 4 and Level 5Characteristics: A teal green body of water with a slight pale glaze.
Bone Ponds
Campire Level: Level 6Characteristics: A deep blue water with debris and bones lurking beneath the depths.
Before fishing, you should only seek out ponds with animated ripples. This indicates the pond is currently full of a school of fish for you to collect. All fish schools host 5 fish before dissipating. You’ll still see animations of fish in the water, but attempting to capture them won’t be as efficient as finding a new rippled pond.
The Rod for the Job
Onto the capture part, now you know how to locate shark spawn pools. These toothy terrors are one of the hardest fish to catch, often having a small, thin green ‘hit’ bar and a rapidly moving cursor.
They’re hard to catch, so you’ll need to invest in your fishing rod. You do this by fishing and gaining EXP, and then upgrading your rod inside the fishing hut when it’s at max level.
Once caught, an uncooked shark gives 2 saturation when eaten, and 4 when cooked.
Deep Sea Fishing
The Deep Sea Fishing badge requires catching 30 sharks, and awards players with the Giant Fishbowl Furniture (bought via the travelling furniture merchant during games) and 10 Diamonds.
