How to Get the Ice Axe in 99 Nights in the Forest
The Ice Axe is obtainable by opening Ice Chests in the Ice Biome. But, how do you open Ice Chests? You need the Good Axe or the Strong Axe! Ice Chests are covered in ice, and you need to break the ice to be able to open them.
The Good Axe can do this in around 5 to 7 hits, whereas the Strong Axe does it with 3 hits. The Old Axe is too weak to do this, and from the looks of it, the Chainsaw cannot break the ice. Keep in mind that the Ice Axe is not inside every single Ice Chest, so you might need to open a few of them when searching!
How to Get the Good Axe and Strong Axe
How do you get the axes that can open the Ice Chests?
Good Axe
You can find the Good Axe inside Good Chests, or you can obtain it by trading with the Pelt Trader NPC for the first time.
Strong Axe
You can find the Strong Axe inside Gold Chests, or you can obtain it when trading with the Pelt Trader NPC for the fourth time.
Ice Axe Passive
The main reason why the Ice Axe is so sought after is because of its passive ability when using it to attack enemies. When you strike a foe, you inflict a chilling debuff. This slows their movement down quite a bit, granting you a chance to get a few extra hits in or evade an oncoming attack.
Aside from the Ice Axe’s passive, this tool can also chop down a tree in just 5 hits. It’s around the same strength as the Good Axe, but is notably better because of its additional ability. For quicker tree chopping, you need the Strong Axe.
