“All monsters have an emotional core to them… They are the most human characters in the movie!” He’s right! The latest iconic filmmaker to visit the iconic Video Club in Paris is Tim Burton, the macabre master & cinematic genius who has been bringing us incredible stories for nearly 5 decades. Burton stopped by the video store in Paris to record a video for Konbini in promotion of the release of Wednesday – Season 2 on Netflix, which is now streaming as of this week. (He also made an animated short film which you can watch here.) This is one of my favorite Video Club videos yet – Burton seems like such a jolly, geeky film nerd who is having the time of his life talking about movies in this place. He brings up a few of his all-time favorites: Ishirō Honda’s The War of the Gargantuas, Mario Bava’s Black Sunday, and double feature I Was a Teenage Werewolf and I Was a Teenage Frankenstein. He also talks (~8:00) being on the Cannes jury in 2010 and choosing Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives for the Palme d’Or. I’m delighted by how upbeat & jovial Burton is, and how he seems to really let his geeky side out in this video shop. Enjoy. // Continue Reading ›
