“How do we break out of this dilemma?” GKids has revealed the first official trailer for an animation sequel titled The Legend of Hei 2, another box office hit in China along with the other animated sequel this year Ne Zha 2. This tells the story of a “new mission” from the Monster Hall. Faced with a series of mysteries, Xiaohei and his senior sister Luye embark on a new adventure to find the truth. The original The Legend of Hei (featuring a super cute black cat) was released back in 2019 – the cat is actually the wood sprite Xiaohei. With gorgeous, hand-drawn animation from the directors MTJJ & Gu Jie, The Legend of Hei 2 is the long-awaited follow-up to the 2019 film, delivering an emotional and action-packed story that will resonate with audiences new and returning. It opened in China already last month and currently holds the highest score among Chinese theatrical releases in 2025 with a Douban rating of 8.7. Following Luo Xiaohei’s captivating journey as he confronts a new crisis following an attack on a formidable guild, exploring themes of resilience and friendship.
