Palia is a free-to-play life simulation MMO that offers a blend of a cozy vibe with crafting, adventure, and exploration. It is similar to other life-sim games like Stardew Valley and Animal Crossing. However, it can be overwhelming at the start, with numerous items, various game mechanics, and the progression system to learn. It is essential for the new players to explore the new Palian World at their own pace and casually progress in the game for better items. There is a ton of content to explore in Palia, and it has everything for all sorts of players. In this guide, we will be telling you the top 10 beginner tips and tricks for playing Palia.

Top 10 Beginner Tips and Tricks for Playing Palia

The tips and tricks that we will be mentioning here will help the players in the early and mid-game. These tips will help players in farming, fishing, decorating, building relationships, progressing the story, and understanding the overall flow of the game.

1. Start gathering items after the initial story quests

Upon beginning your adventure in Palia, it is essential to gather any items that you come across. The initial quests will allow you to meet with different villagers, who will give you insights into various activities. Moreover, they will give you all the initial tools that you will be using in the game. After you have all of the tools, leave your housing plot area and start exploring the world. There are three different zones available in Palia, Kilima Valley, Bahari Bay, and Elderwood. Each map zone offers unique items, crafting materials, and resources.

Start gathering the items you see, as each item has a value, and you can increase that value by using those items to craft something new. It is better to hold on to the items initially. Don’t worry about the space or anything at the start. Craft the storage chests and place them in your housing plot to start hoarding items.

2. Level up the skills to unlock new recipes

There are 8 skills available in Palia, each of which lets you gain more experience and unlock new recipes at the corresponding guild store. For instance, if you cut trees and forage items, you will level up in the Foraging Skill. It will allow you to purchase new recipes from the Foraging Guild Store, which you can craft at the Worktable. The leveling system works the same for all the skills. It is essential to at least level up a few times in each skill earlier in the game, so that you can purchase a higher-quality tool recipe from the stores. Moreover, it will allow you to purchase the recipes for various stations Sawmill, Smelter, Furnace, etc. All of these stations are necessary for crafting new materials.

3. Farming is essential for earning gold

Gold is essential for almost everything in Palia. You can sell almost every item in the game, but it will only make you a small money. If you want to start earning a decent amount of gold, then you must do farming in your housing plot area. Start with the common seeds like carrot, potato, tomato, lettuce, etc. You can purchase all of these seeds from Zeki’s General Store. Plant the seeds and water them daily until they grow mature. Harvest your crops and sell them at the bin. You will start earning a decent amount of Gold every day. As you make more money, you can enlarge your farming area and add more crops.

As you progress further, you can unlock the Seed Collector. It will allow you to get seeds from your harvested crops. This way, you will not have to purchase any more seeds from Zeki. You will save Gold and make more money.

4. Upgrade your tools

There are 7 tools in total in Palia, which you will use for different activities and skills. You will start with the Makeshift tier for all the tools. These tools will only help you get common items around the world. It is better that you upgrade the tools to at least the Standard or Fine tier to get most of the materials around the world. It will unlock the possibility for you to craft new items and materials. You can purchase the recipes for higher-quality tools from their corresponding guild stores.

However, unlike the Makeshift tools, all the higher-quality tools have a durability system. The durability of the tools will gradually decrease as you use them. If the durability decreases to zero, the tool will degrade to a lower quality. To prevent that, you must repair the tools before they degrade. You can visit the Blacksmith at Kilima Valley to repair the tools, or you can build a repair station on the housing plot and repair the tools yourself.

5. Increase the Inventory Size

All players start with 16 inventory slots in Palia. It is the capacity of the Starter Backpack in the game. To increase the inventory size, you can purchase a better backpack from Zeki’s General Store. The initial upgrade will require you to complete a quest and cost 500 Gold. It will upgrade the inventory size to 24 slots. For further upgrades, you will have to pay a large amount of gold. However, it is not that difficult, as long as you are earning money from your farm.

6. Spend Renown to increase maximum Focus and Focus Bonus

One of the most missed out things in Palia is utilizing the Renown. Renown is the secondary currency in Palia, which is primarily used for increasing the overall Focus capacity and Focus Bonus. Focus is not a player’s energy, but determines the additional experience points for the player. The Focus bar is on the top left corner of the screen, and players can increase the maximum Focus and its bonus for an overall better experience farming and leveling up skills.

Players earn Renown from friendship levels with villagers, leveling up skills, completing accomplishments, and quests. To use Renown, go to the Dragon Shrine and interact with it to increase the maximum Focus. Moreover, if you want to increase the bonus percentage of the Focus, go to the Phoenix Shrine and interact with it. Spending Renown at both of these shrines will help you level up quickly.

7. Always keep food on you

Similar to the previous tip, food is essential in Palia. It is because it fills the Focus bar and lets you keep earning extra experience points. Focus bar depletes as you perform various activities throughout the day. If the Focus bar is on zero, you will not earn any additional experience points. It is better to consume some food, so that you always earn additional experience points and level up faster.

8. Speak to the villagers daily

Building a relationship with villagers is one of the key features in Palia. The initial step of befriending villagers is to speak with them. Every in-game day, try to speak with as many villagers as possible to earn some friendship points with them. Increasing Friendship Level with the villagers will help you uncover their lore. Moreover, you will unlock exclusive friendship quests for the villagers.

9. Give gifts to the villagers to understand their taste

In addition to the previous tip, gifting is essential for leveling up friendships with the villagers. You can give gifts to villagers by speaking with them. Give any item, fish, bug, or resource as a gift to start understanding the taste of the villagers. You don’t have to start with expensive gifts straightaway. However, you can give 1 gift per villager in 1 real-life day. So, you can give 1 gift to every villager per day to start learning what they like. After figuring out their preferences, you can start giving them better gifts to further increase the friendship level.

10. Expand the housing plot

Our final tip is to expand your housing plot area, as you are going to want to make room for all of your furniture, workstations, garden, and more. Purchase Writs from the City Hall to unlock more land around the housing plot. As you expand the land, you can lay out the house as you like. Moreover, you can purchase the Housing Slots to make the house bigger. However, it is recommended to do this gradually, as the housing slots are not cheaper.

Other than these tips, there are many ways you can tackle the overall flow of your game. If you find farming more time-taking, you can give the fishing activity a go. Fishing is also a great way to make Gold early in the game. Foraging items, hunting creatures, and catching bugs, all of these activities will help you in your playthrough.
