“We’re getting out, no matter what.” Watermelon Pictures has debuted the official US trailer for an indie film titled To A Land Unknown, made by filmmaker Mahdi Fleifel. This originally premiered at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival last year in the Directors’ Fortnight sidebar, then played at tons of festivals including Munich, New Zealand, Melbourne, Toronto, London, Hamptons, Chicago, and AFI Fest last fall. The stakes couldn’t be higher for displaced Palestinian refugees Chatila and Reda in this knife-edge drama. The cousins are saving to pay for fake passports to get out of Athens headed towards Germany, but when Reda loses the hard-earned cash to his drug addiction, Chatila hatches an extreme plan to pose as smugglers in an attempt to escape their painful situation before it’s too late. As their hardship grows, so too does their desperation… Starring Mahmood Bakri, Angeliki Papoulia, and introducing Aram Sabbah. This looks very powerful and intense to watch – a harrowing story of survival & existence in the harsh world we all live in nowadays. // Continue Reading ›
