Elden Ring Nightreign is an online multiplayer roguelike action-adventure game, where players party up with each other to complete expeditions in Limveld. It is faster-paced than the original game, allowing players to clear out as many enemies as possible over the course of three in-game days. However, starting as a new player in Elden Ring Nightreign can be a bit distracting due to other players in your party. You might want to begin as a solo to both explore and experience things on your own, to have a better understanding of the mechanics and the world. This guide will break down how to play solo in Elden Ring Nightreign.

How to Play Solo in Elden Ring Nightreign

As you begin the adventure in Elden Ring Nightreign, you must first complete the tutorial. Go through the basics of the game and try to defeat the tutorial boss. Even if you don’t succeed in defeating the tutorial boss, the tutorial will end regardless. Once the tutorial is done, you will find yourself at the Roundtable Hold, the hub area. From here, you can initiate the initial expedition, Tricephalos. However, the default matchmaking system will be set to multiplayer. It will join you with two other players. To change the matchmaking to Solo, you need to set it to Single Player. Here are the simple steps to change the matchmaking preference in Elden Ring Nightreign.

Go to the Roundtable Hold table and interact with it by pressing the Y/Triangle button. It will open the menu with available expeditions.

Press the R1/RB button to switch to Matchmaking Settings.

Scroll down to find the “Expedition Type” option. It will be set to Multiplayer by default.

Change the Expedition Type to Single Player.

After setting the expedition type to Single Player, it will change your preference. Now, you can close the menu or begin the expedition to experience the world at your own pace.

Things to Know Before Starting an Expedition as a Solo Player

Now, there are some things that is a bit different in the Single Player Expedition Type.

You cannot choose the Nightfarer as you start the expedition. Make sure to select the character you wish to play beforehand, starting the matchmaking for an expedition.

The foes will have less health and poise meter. However, the foes are still challenging as you are alone, and no one can revive you.

Speaking of revive, the solo player will receive a free revive only during the Night Lord encounter on Day 3 of the expedition. So, if you fall to your death while facing the final boss of the expedition, you will still have one more chance. However, keep in mind that the revive does not fill up your health to max or give you Healing Flasks.

Other than these major differences, the overall run depends on your playstyle. You can be ruthless and eliminate every boss you can find to level up quickly. Moreover, track down the churches to increase the maximum number of flasks and find essential usables.
