The Nature of Shadows is the third new main quest for Subira, which was added with the Elderwood expansion in Palia. After making your way to the Elderwood, Subira will visit the Elderwood. It is finally time to begin your investigation. This guide will walk you through the Nature of Shadows quest in Palia.
How to Complete the Nature of Shadows Quest in Palia
Starting the Quest
The Nature of Shadows quest becomes available after completing the Elderwood quest. As you finish helping Nai’o to look for the lost boy, Subira will visit the Central Stables. Speaking with Subira will let you discuss the initial steps of the investigation and begin the Nature of Shadows quest.
Gather the materials
After speaking to Subira at the Central Stables, the quest will update and require gathering the following materials.
20x Stone: Mine the stone nodes to collect stones.
10x Whitestone: Mine the regular stone nodes to collect Whitestones in Elderwood.
10x Palium Ore: Mine the Palium nodes to collect the Palium Ores.
Both the stone and palium nodes are quite common in Elderwood. You can easily find the stone and palium nodes in the cavern areas of the Elderwood. After gathering the materials, go back to the Central Stables and speak with Subira. Deliver the materials and go through the dialogues. Tamala will join in the conversation and offer assistance in gathering more infected samples.
After speaking with Subira, go to the eastern exit of the stables and speak with Subira again. Subira will agree to get help from Tamala. Now, go back and speak with Tamala.
Gather the ingredients
After speaking with Subira and Tamala at the Central Stables, the quest will update. Now, you will have to gather different ingredients. You can speak with Tamala to get hints for finding the ingredients. Here is how to find all the ingredients.
1x Cave Piksii: Usually spawn in the cavern areas. Search the Lilac Cavern location for a flying butterfly. It will take several smoke bombs to catch it.
1x Toadstool Floatfish: Commonly spawns in the water at the De Mer Dock location. Look for the ripples in the water and cast the line without equipping any bait. It might take you a couple of tries to catch the Toadstool Floatfish.
3x Elderwood Orchid: The best location to look for it is the Deep Woods. Make sure to forage the bright pink ones and not the infected ones.
10x Infected Essence: It is a purple orb on the ground and spawns everywhere in Elderwood.
After gathering all the correct ingredients, go back to the Central Stables and deliver them to Tamala. Go through the dialogues, and Tamala will give you the Elderwood Potion. Open the inventory and drink the potion. It will give you the buff to collect infected materials like plants and trees.
Gather Infected Plants and Infected Essence
After drinking the Elderwood Potion, you need to gather 5 infected plants and 50 infected essence. The infected essence is almost everywhere in Elderwood, so gather them as you see them. Go to the Deep Woods location and look for infected Elderwood Orchids or the trees. Cutting the infected trees will also count as the plants.
After gathering the infected items, go back to Subira at the Central Stables. Speak with Subira and tell her that you have Flora. Tamala will join the conversation as well. At the end of the conversation, you will have to select one of three options for the next part of the quest.
I’ll try hunting: Begins the Shot in the Dark quest.
Let’s catch some bugs: Begins the Bugging Out quest.
Fishing sounds relaxing: Begins the Something Fishy quest.
After making the choice, the Nature of Shadows quest will conclude.
Rewards
Completing the Nature of Shadows quest in Palia will give the following rewards.
