Tips and Tricks to Get Started in Avowed
Avowed is a semi-open-world action role-playing video game where players will get to explore various biomes within The Living Lands. Players will unlock the biomes as they progress through the story and each biome is unique, containing new secrets, mysteries, materials, gear items, and enemies. Before players prioritize exploration, which is quite crucial for solving mysteries, crafting essentials, and upgrading gear, they must first learn the basics of character progression and playstyle.
Below you will find some of the best tips and tricks that will help you get started in Avowed.
Selecting a Background – Starting Weapon
Starting a new journey in Avowed will bring you to the character creation system, allowing you to create and customize the character that you would like to pursue for the rest of the game. There are numerous options for creating and customizing your character in Avowed. Some of the most notable are the Godlike features, the flowers and roots that grow on the character’s face and head. You can disable them for yourself to see your character as you like, but the NPCs will react as if you have them on.
The most important part of the character creation is selecting a background. There are five different backgrounds that you can choose from and each one gives you a unique starting weapon.
Arcane Scholar – Dagger
Court Augur – Mace
Noble Scion – Sword
Vanguard Scout – Axe
War Hero – Spear
NOTE: There is no restriction on weapon usage. You can use any type of weapon in your adventure.
If you like to use a specific weapon right from the start, then selecting a respective background might give you an advantage.
Investing Points in Attributes
The last thing that you will get to do during the character creation is allocate points in the attributes. There are six main stats for your character including Might, Constitution, Dexterity, Perception, Intellect, and Resolve. Each main stat holds two different enhancements for your character that will affect a certain type of playstyle. For instance, Might act as Strength which increases the overall Damage and carrying capacity. Moreover, if you prefer spellcasting, Intellect stat should be your priority as it increases maximum essence and elemental resistance.
Now, initially, you will get the opportunity to spend 10 points on the main stats. It is best to allocate them depending on the play style you wish to pursue. As you level up in the game, you will more points to further enhance the stats. This will help you greatly in building your character and follow a certain build to face the challenges.
However, there is no restriction in following a single play style, you can create your own unique play style by mixing weapons and skills. So, during your playthrough, if you want to reallocate points into the main stats, you can do it. Simply, go into the Attributes and press the respective key to reset points. It will cost you a small amount of Gold and all of your points will be reset. Now, you can allocate them according to your build.
Test Abilities from All Skill Trees
During the starting hour of the adventure, the game will give you a tutorial on using abilities. You can unlock abilities from their respective Skill Trees. There are four main skill trees in Avowed from which three of them represent a certain play style and build for your character. The fourth skill tree, the Godlike Skill Tree gives unique abilities that you can only unlock by progressing in the main story. The main three skill trees are Fighter, Ranger, and Wizard. Every time you level up, you can spend points in the skill trees to unlock abilities unique to each skill tree.
Although you can strengthen your character for a certain play style by unlocking abilities from the respective skill tree, it is essential that you test abilities from other skill trees as well. The combat is more fun when you multiclass and use abilities and actions from other skill trees. A few of the suggestions regarding abilities that you must unlock in your playthrough are as follows.
Constant Recovery (Fighter): After taking damage, slowly regenerates the health of the last amount of Health lost.
Parry (Ranger): Time a perfect Block against a melee attack to knock the enemy back and gain an immediate counter-attack.
Both of these abilities are passive granting you a few of the best advantages during combat. Moreover, there are ranks for the abilities. As you unlock the higher-rank of an ability, the effect of that ability increases. For instance, if you unlock Rank 3 of Constant Recovery, you will gain back 100% of the health of the last amount of Health lost.
Wear the Gear According to your Playstyle
Avowed offers a variety of gear items including, different armor types, weapon types, trinkets, rings, and more. All of these are essential for your character, but you must choose the armor type accordingly. There are three armor types in Avowed, light, medium, and heavy. Wearing a heavy armor will give you the most resistance against attacks but it will slow down your recovery speed and even attack speed. So, playing a fighter with heavy armor might slow you down.
However, as you make further progress and explore the biomes, you might come across accessory items, including trinkets and rings. These items provide various buffs like enhancing stamina, attack speed, resistance, and more. You can mitigate the debuff effects of heavy armor with certain accessories.
Upgrade Your Gear Tier
Upgrading the gear tier is probably the most crucial thing in Avowed that most of the new players overlook. It is not only for strengthening your armor or weapons, it is about upgrading their tier that match the difficulty of enemies. Avowed includes a unique approach to defining difficult enemies. The enemies do not scale with your level but with the rarity/tier. There are five different tiers and you can level up your gear to the next rarity with the required materials.
During your adventure, you can set up a party camp by interacting with Adra Waystone. Doing so will let you set up a camp to which you can fast travel later in the game. Moreover, it offers various camp utilities as well like Workbench. Using the workbench will let you upgrade your gear tier. Use the respective materials to upgrade the rarity of your favorite gear items.
Send the Unnecessary Items Back to Camp
While at the party camp, you can find a Stash where you can transfer all the unnecessary items. This helps you manage your inventory and saves you from not over-cumbering yourself. However, most of the players might not know this but, you can send the items directly from your inventory to the stash. If you open the inventory, you will see an action “Stash in Camp”. Press the respective key to view the items you have in the stash and then you can transfer the items to the stash that you don’t need at the moment.
Explore the Biomes for Materials and Totems
Exploration is a big part of the adventure in Avowed. Not only you will find various secrets in The Living Lands, but you will also get to gather some essential materials. These materials then can be used in crafting and upgrading. Moreover, while you are exploring the world, hunt for the Totems. These are the collectibles that can grant you additional buffs. Each Totem has several fragments scattered around the world. Finding them and returning them to the camp for activation will provide you with various buffs. Frankly, additional buffs are never worthless so activating Totems will help you a lot in your adventure.
For now, that is all related to our tips and tricks to get started in Avowed. There are several more things to keep in mind while progressing your adventure. So, do read the tutorials, especially if you are a new player, and don’t forget to communicate with your companions. They can reveal some of the hidden things that you might not see at the moment.
