After a surprising first announcement of Nintendo Switch 2 by Nintendo yesterday, Nintendo’s shares fall by 7% on January 16, 2025.
Investors Were Not Happy with the Reveal of Nintendo Switch 2
As the official announcement of Nintendo Switch 2 was surprising for most of the fans and people around the world, it seems like the investors were not happy with it. After the reveal of Switch 2, the stock price of Nintendo instantly fell by 7%. Currently, it has made its way up, but still down by 4,26%. However, the decrease in the share clearly shows that the investors and the fans wanted more from Nintendo on the reveal of Nintendo Switch 2.
One of the main reasons why Nintendo’s reveal of Switch 2 felt lackluster to people is the leaks. Due to numerous leaks of Nintendo successor, most of the community and fans already knew the hardware design. Due to spoliation by leaks, the fans did not react excitedly to the official announcement and reveal of Nintendo Switch 2.
Moreover, popular outlets like Eurogamer and Gamespot were also not happy with the surprise reveal of Switch 2. Because the reveal was so “dull and boring” compared to the original Switch.
Eurogamer, “What happened to the company that used to surprise us?”
Gamespot, “The two-and-a-half minute video checks basic boxes but fails delivering any sort of wow factor.”
