Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon Director Abebe Tinari is moving from Japanese studio Platinum Games to PlayStation’s Housemarque. He will be the Lead Game Designer at the Finnish studio.
Bayonetta Origins Director Abebe Tinari joins Housemarque as Lead Game Designer
As spotted by eagle-eyed ResetEra users, Tinari updated their LinkedIn profile to include Housemarque. Exactly what he will be working on is still unknown. However, a job posting last year for a senior game designer stated the studio is working on a AAA action game featuring boss fights.
Tinari posted an update on their work status on BlueSky in the middle of last December where they stated they were now based in Helsinki. Other BlueSky users speculated where he landed, many of which correctly guessed Housemarque. Others also floated Alan Wake developer Remedy as another option.
Tinari worked at Platinum Games for a little over 11 years. Starting with English localization for Bayonetta 2, he acted as director for Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon. Other games they worked on are Granblue Fantasy: Relink, Star Fox Guard, and the unreleased Xbox exclusive Scalebound.
Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon reviewed well when it launched for the Nintendo Switch in 2023. It received a Metascore of 80 on Metacritic. Along with Tinari, Bayonetta creator Hideki Kamiya aided in writing.
Housemarque is a Finnish studio based in Helsinki. The developer has been around in several different forms since 1993. However, the studio started getting more mainstream success with Super Startdust HD, and Dead Nation for PS3. The developer is also known for other classic arcade inspired games like Resogun, Alienation, and Nex Machina.
Its 2021 PS5 roguelike third-person shooter Returnal was a departure from its usual arcade-style games. It did well critically and has received updates since its launch.
In our review, Chandler Wood gave Returnal a 10, saying, “Returnal is an essential PS5 title, now and throughout the console’s life.”
