When GGG said that completing the campaign was just the beginning, they were not lying. The End-game content of Path of Exile 2 is expansive and it introduces players to a new progress system called Atlas of Worlds. It is an ever-expanding map with numerous locations requiring players to gather numerous maps to get access to a certain citadel for a boss fight. However, as more and more players complete their initial map progression and face the boss, they ask the developers to change the one-attempt Citadel boss fight.
The end-game activity is extremely difficult as it deletes all of your progress from collected maps and access to the Citadel for the fight upon dying. As the Pinnacle of Flame quest requires you to find and face all three Citadel bosses, a single mistake can wash away your hours of progress.
One of the players posted on Reddit, “Citadel bosses being souls-like with one shots and 300+ maps required to access them cannot go together with only 1 attempt.”
The starting statement of the post reveals the frustration of players. “Requiring 100+ maps per citadel then offering only 1 try at them is one of the most insanely punishing things I’ve ever seen in a game.”
Another player posted on Reddit with the same frustration of losing 40 hours of progress. “Just spent 40 hours mapping in SSF to finally get all the Citadels only to get 1 shot by a meteor on arbiter that spawned off screen. So my options are literally watch a youtube video for every single fight that is going to come out in POE 2 before experiencing it myself or waste 40 hours of my life.”
Moreover, some players think this system will be better if the bosses don’t have one-shot attacks. “It would be acceptable if the fights weren‘t full of oneshot mechanics or there was a feasible way to train the fights. But what it is now is unfortunately a design that just encourages playing op-builds to skip mechanics or study boss guides before every fight.”
Let us know what you think of the Atlas of Worlds progress system and if you are comfortable with it being this much punishable.
