TENSEI has just launched across Console and iOS, and offers up a truly unique experience whether you’re playing it handheld or on a TV.

Developed by Project Pegasus, the indie game development arm of NEURON・AGE Co., Ltd., the title almost speaks for itself when you see it in motion. Don’t believe us? Well, just check out the trailer below.

See what we mean? This game didn’t win runner-up in the Best 3D Visuals award at the Unity Awards for nothing you know.

TENSEI asks you to leap (and fall) repeatedly, as you make your way upwards through backdrops that look like they’ve been freshly inked onto paper. As the developer itself says “enjoy a moment of peace and tranquility, away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life” while playing.

It’s a casual experience at heart then, but there’s a challenge here for those looking for it with high scores up for grabs.

You can also unlock an endless gameplay mode by clearing certain conditions, and there’s even a ZEN mode you can play if you grab enough consumable items in the main mode.

Comparisons to other titles are largely fruitless when it comes to TENSEI – in a good way – but visually it reminds us a little of Okami.

In terms of gameplay though it’s like a mix of Snake, Katarmari Damacy, and several other titles we couldn’t possibly name off the top of our heads.

But ultimately TENSEI is very much its own thing, offering an intoxicating gameplay loop paired with aesthetics that are as haunting as they are beautiful.

The game is also available to play in a range of languages from launch too, including Japanese, English, Chinese (simplified and traditional), Italian, French, German, Spanish, and Russian.

TENSEI is available now across Steam, Nintendo Switch, iOS, Xbox and Playstation 5. We recommend you check it out, with pricing ranging from format to format – but across the board the costs are well judged, in our humble opinion. There’s also a free demo version for you to try out on itch.io right here.
