Two of Capcom’s beloved classics are now available to purchase without a PS Plus Premium subscription, and those who owned them in the past on the PS3 or PS Vita can download them for free — no subscription required. Both PS5, PS4 versions of Resident Evil Director’s Cut and Dino Crisis are cross-buy, or $9.99 each for first-time owners.
Capcom classics free of PS Plus shackles, but still no trophies
Resident Evil Director’s Cut and Dino Crisis being made available for free and standalone purchase is a step forward, but unfortunately, neither of them come with trophies. Sony has previously warned that when it comes to third-party classics, the decision to add trophies is up to the publisher. Capcom and Bandai Namco Entertainment are two publishers who seemingly aren’t in any hurry to patch their old games with trophies.
As a reminder, one of November 2024’s PS Plus Premium classic — Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain — is also free for past owners. As previously mentioned, not all classics get the cross-buy treatment, so players have to figure out on their own if they’re able to snag a game for free or not.
Once again, we recommend using this fan-made master list of classics with cross-buy or free PS5/PS4 upgrade to check if you’re eligible for a free download.
