It is undeniable. The PS5 30th Anniversary console looks great. The classic PS1 colorway shines with this nostalgic edition of Sony‘s current-gen hardware. However, looks can be deceiving. It may not be as perfect as it seems, as its unique cable connector clashes with the console’s design.

The PS5 30th Anniversary cable connector blocks the USB port

One of the coolest accessories exclusive to the PS5 30th Anniversary console is its cable connector. It is shaped like the original PS1 controller connector. On paper, this is an awesome treat for PlayStation players who grew up with Sony’s original console. However, due to its size, the connector actually blocks the other USB port.

From the PS5 subreddit, user milzellaneous posted a picture of the cable connector connected to the limited edition console. It very clearly blocks the other USB port. Essentially, players that opt to use the nostalgic accessory can’t use the other USB port. This may have been a bit of an oversight from those who designed the console.

The PS5 30th Anniversary console was announced back in September, and was available in both PS5 Pro and PS5 Digital models. Both models included the console in the iconic PS1 colorway, vertical stand, the aforementioned cable connector, four PlayStation Shapes cable ties, a sticker, poster, and paper clip. Disc drives did have to be purchased separately, but it did include a gray cover for the accessory. It essentially sold out instantly.

Additionally, Sony sold a trio of 30th Anniversary accessories for PlayStation players. The PS Portal, DualSense, and DualSense Edge all received limited editions in the classic colorway. Like the console, these accessories sell out as they get relisted.

Sony initially laid out its plans for PlayStation’s 30th Anniversary in early September. It all kicked off with Astro Bot, an interactive love letter to the beloved gaming brand. PlayStation has collaborated with Sony Music to bring fan favorite soundtracks to Spotify between October and January. It seems to be concluding with My First GT, a free trial version of Gran Turismo 7 featuring cars and tracks from the original PS1 release.
