A large number of players have reported a PS5 Pro graphics issue that causes excessive shimmer in games. We’ve seen enough reports to deduce that this issue isn’t an isolated case and it’s pretty widespread across multiple games. It’s been theorized that the issue is caused by improper implementation of PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR).

PS5 Pro graphics issue yet to be addressed, but there’s a temporary workaround

Numerous threads have popped up across social media and gaming forums including Reddit and ResetEra, based upon which we’ve narrowed the issue down to games running in 60 fps on the PS5 Pro. Sony has yet to acknowledge the issue, let alone fix it, but a temporary workaround is switching to 120 fps.

Some users think that the shimmering nightmare is caused by in-game metallic edges, especially when they are made to reflect lights. One Reddit user compiled a list of games in which the issue occurs, and the parts they’ve highlighted sure do have quite a lot of reflective objects.

For example, Alan Wake 2’s city side with cars, phone booths, etc. have a lot of metallic visuals, and so does Spider-Man 2’s Coney Island. Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 has also been plagued by the 60 fps shimmer since finally receiving the Pro enhanced patch.

We’ll keep an eye on the situation, and share updates when we have them.
