In a recent interview with BBC, starring Eiji Aonuma, the game’s directors, Tomomi Sano and Satoshi Terada, shared their thoughts on the game’s unique mechanics and the future of the series. The game directors shared their approach to making a fresh Zelda game with unique mechanics like Echo and Bind abilities. Both of these mechanics are heavily applied to Zelda’s adventure in the game.

According to Aonuma, he completed Echoes of Wisdom eight times during its development and each time he noticed a different approach to solving puzzles. At first, he thought it “might be close to impossible” to make a new Zelda game with new elements in a top-down style. However, after the successful launch and seeing people take a unique approach to handling the situation, Aonuma says “I think through this game we were able to satisfy a lot of players. And so this game made me realize that there’s still a lot of possibility for these top-down Zelda games as well.”
