The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom is the latest title in the infamous series of Zelda. For the first time ever, it focuses on Princess Zelda as the main protagonist who ventures forth on a newly designed Hyrule World to save it from the spreading Rift. Despite it being the 2D top-down design Zelda game, it received positive reviews across the board and sold over 2.5 million copies. After its success, The Legend of Zelda series producer, Eiji Aonuma shares his thoughts on the future of the Zelda series and that he wishes to continue with 2D top-down Zeldas in an interview.
Eiji Aonuma believes the Echoes of Wisdom Satisfied a Lot of Players
In a recent interview with BBC, starring Eiji Aonuma, the game’s directors, Tomomi Sano and Satoshi Terada, shared their thoughts on the game’s unique mechanics and the future of the series. The game directors shared their approach to making a fresh Zelda game with unique mechanics like Echo and Bind abilities. Both of these mechanics are heavily applied to Zelda’s adventure in the game.
According to Aonuma, he completed Echoes of Wisdom eight times during its development and each time he noticed a different approach to solving puzzles. At first, he thought it “might be close to impossible” to make a new Zelda game with new elements in a top-down style. However, after the successful launch and seeing people take a unique approach to handling the situation, Aonuma says “I think through this game we were able to satisfy a lot of players. And so this game made me realize that there’s still a lot of possibility for these top-down Zelda games as well.”
Eiji Aonuma Wishes to Continue with 2D top-down Zeldas
The producer of the series, Aonuma didn’t share much about what is next for the beloved Zelda franchise. However, he does mention that “And so we will also have those dynamic 3D Zeldas as well. But in addition to that, we’re also hoping that we can continue with these 2D top-down Zeldas.”
This means, the fans can expect more top-down Zelda games from Nintendo with more unique elements in each one. Moreover, the dynamic 3D Zelda games are also planned for the future.
