There are currently over 40 villagers in Disney Dreamlight Valley from the Disney and Pixar universes. These include the characters from both free updates and the first expansion, A Rift in Time. As each villager is unique and has a charming personality to them, they all can be appointed to a substantial role that they can perform while hanging out with you. What Are Roles in Disney Dreamlight Valley
The roles in Disney Dreamlight Valley are certain activities that villagers help you perform while hanging out with you. As you perform the corresponding activity to a villager’s role while they are out with you, it will reward you with additional Friendship Points with the villager. Moreover, during the activity, there is a chance of a Bonus Resource that will allow you to get several resources at once in a short period.
NOTE: You can guarantee the Bonus Resource if you have assigned 5 different villagers to an identical role.
Players can assign only one role to a villager upon reaching Friendship Level 2 with them. After assigning the role to a villager, they will partake in the assigned activity when you hang out with them. Fortunately, you can change the roles of the villagers by giving them a certain Training Manual to which you want their roles to change. However, these Training Manuals are not cheap and each one costs 5,000 Dreamlight along with various materials.
All Roles in Disney Dreamlight Valley
There are five base Roles in Disney Dreamlight Valley and six if you own the A Rift in Time expansion.
Digging – Use Royal Shovel to dig and fill holes.
Fishing – Use Royal Fishing Rod to catch fish, Seaweed, Red Algae, and materials.
Foraging – Gather resources and materials from the ground.
Gardening – Plant the seeds into the ground, use Royal Watering Can to water the seeds, and harvest the crops when matured.
Mining – Use the Royal Pickaxe to mine the nodes.
Timebending (exclusive with A Rift in Time expansion) – Use Royal Hourglass to pull treasures from the Rifts.

Tips for Gaining the Most Rewards with Villager Roles
You can follow the following tips for each role to get the most of the rewards while hanging out with the villagers.
Fishing: Bring along a villager with at least Friendship Level 5 and the fishing role. Catch all the fish in the pond/river/ocean to have a high chance of Bonus Resource.
Digging: Dig the ground in a straight line until the Bonus Resource event triggers. If you trigger the Bonus Resource on Soil, you can gather a decent amount of Soil which you can turn into Rich Soil.
Foraging: Always bring along a high friendship level villager with the foraging role while you are on a hunt for gathering materials. It can offer you a chance to get several materials for free during the Bonus Resource.
Gardening: Keep a villager with a gardening role close to you whenever you are planting, watering, or harvesting any crop to gain extra yield.
Mining: Bring along a high friendship level villager with the mining role to have a chance of triggering the Bonus Resource while mining the precious gems.
Timebending: Keep a villager with the Timebending role close to you when you are searching for the rifts to pull out ancient treasures.
