Sony has finally confirmed what it should have disclosed months ago: PS5 Pro console covers will be sold separately. Players have been scrambling to figure out whether PS5 Slim plates would fit the upgraded hardware given that they’re the same size, and it took a Redditor getting their hands on a PS5 Pro prior to launch to confirm that this won’t be the case.
PS5 Pro covers don’t have a release date yet
With the Reddit post going viral, several publications reached out to Sony for an official comment. A representative finally responded to IGN, stating that Pro owners should expect covers in the future.
“PS5 console covers are not compatible with PS5 Pro,” Sony said. “However, players will be able to swap out different console covers for PS5 Pro when they become available in the future.” The company didn’t provide a release date or window for the Pro covers.
Sony has since been sharply criticized for failing to share this information ahead of time. Frankly, it’s a bit bizarre that it took a Reddit post to get this confirmation. Since there isn’t a size difference between the PS5 Slim and Pro as such, players have criticized the company for not ensuring that the existing covers fit.
According to the aforementioned Reddit user, although the size of the covers is the same, it is the placement of the connectors that renders the Slim plates useless on the Pro.
