Dying Light franchise director Tymon Smektala has said that PS5 Pro PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) could prove to be more important than console’s GPU power. In an interview with GamingBolt, Smektala said that the AI upscaler can allow developers “bigger creative liberty” in the long run.
PS5 Pro PSSR has been praised by tech experts
It was only recently that tech experts over at Digital Foundry said that PSSR outperforms AMD FSR 3.1. Smektala’s statement to GamingBolt suggests that it could be a game-changer for video game development.
“Sony’s PSSR is a substantial push for the supersampling tech that other companies are experimenting with,” Smektala said. “It’s a great initiative as, in the future, this can allow developers to focus slightly less on performance and have bigger creative liberty.”
Smektala added that if Sony delivers on its promise, PSSR will ultimately be more useful than an increase in GPU power. “If what Sony is proposing will become a new standard, then PSSR could potentially turn out to be even more important than the direct increase in GPU power that the console delivers,” he added.
Elsewhere in the interview, Smektala praised the PS5 Pro, noting that the hardware gives developers more flexibility with video game graphics and performance.
