The infamous game ‘Pokémon with Guns’ Palworld was released earlier this year on January 19 and broke several records surpassing big multiplayer games like Dota 2 and Counter-Strike 2. With its rising popularity, the Pokémon Company investigated Palworld for any infringement on intellectual property rights related to the Pokémon. However, despite the investigation, Pocketpair didn’t hear anything from Nintendo nor face any legal action.
Now, over eight months after Palworld’s release, Nintendo has officially filed a lawsuit against Pocket Pair, the developer of Palworld for infringement of patent rights. In the official press release shared by Nintendo, it says both Nintendo and Pokémon Company filed a patent infringement lawsuit in Tokyo District Court against Pocketpair on September 18, 2024.
“This lawsuit seeks an injunction against infringement and compensation for damages on the grounds that Palworld, a game developed and released by the Defendant, infringes multiple patent rights.”
“Nintendo will continue to take necessary actions against any infringement of its intellectual property rights including the Nintendo brand itself, to protect the intellectual properties it has worked hard to establish over the years.”
However, the Pocketpair is still focused on continuing Palworld by adding skins/microtransactions and a DLC later.
