“What in the hell is going on?!” Drafthouse Film has unveiled a new trailer for a 4K re-release of cult classic The Birthday, directed by Spanish filmmaker Eugenio Mira, described as “mischievously thrilling, darkly hilarious.” The Birthday first premiered at the 2004 Sitges Film Festival, meaning the film is celebrating the 20th anniversary of its original debut next month, though it never got an actual US release. Drafthouse will host screenings of the 4K version this fall. Their intro: Not everything is as it seems at the old Royal Fulton Hotel. Norman Forrester, played brilliantly in a career-defining performance by Corey Feldman, is finally going to meet his girlfriend’s family at her father’s lavish birthday party. But what was supposed to be an important step forward in their relationship doesn’t exactly go as planned; he’s not on the guest list, his girlfriend is ignoring him, and her father doesn’t like him at all.
