Disney Dreamlight Valley offers eleven different critters that players can befriend by feeding their favorite food. Befriending a critter makes them a player’s companion which they can bring along to their adventures of various activities like fishing, mining, questing, or decorating The Valley.

However, it seems many players find it difficult to feed critters, especially the ones that run away at the start (part of the initial behavior when approaching a critter in the game). One player shared their unfortunate experience with chasing critters, especially rabbits on Reddit, and the other users both agreed with the person’s complaint but also gave them several tips to approach and feed the critters.

Every critter has its unique behavior and requires a certain pattern for approach. Learning the pattern to approach the critters is essential to feed them. The critters that are difficult to approach are those who run (tag) or play a little game of Red Light/Green Light by lifting and lowering their head.

Rabbits/Foxes/Monkeys run when you go close to them. Let them run to the new position, then run to them, and repeat it two or three times to get the approach prompt on the screen to feed them.

Raccoons/Crocodiles/Cobras lift and lower their heads showing their body language. If a critter’s head is lifted, it is alerted and you need to remain still until the critter relaxes (lower its head). Moving towards a critter while it is alerted will make them move to a new location.

For the other critters in the game, they will come to you by themselves or you can approach them without playing any games.

Moreover, a couple of useful tips given by the users on Reddit that you can also use for feeding the critters without much hassle.

If you glide after the racoons and the crocodiles, eventually(but like… it doesn’t take very long) they get tired of running away and you can feed them. The worst ones are the rabbits. If they get stuck in a corner or something similar, they often(for me at least) glitch put and I have to start all over again.

I find with the bunnies I basically started to body check them and then after three times I can approach lol

What is your experience with approaching and feeding critters in Disney Dreamlight Valley?
