The launch of the Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Artbook, Master Works on August 30, 2024, revealed a lot of new details that the Developers have to face during the development of the game.

One of the biggest challenges that the creators of the game have to overcome is to decide the name of the game. The original idea of naming the game was ‘Tears of the Dragon’, but it was risky as it can easily give away hints regarding the Dragon form of Zelda. So, the team came up with the word ‘Kingdom’ instead, which fits perfectly with the White Dragon being the iconic logo of the game.

For the world and story of TOTK, the Devs also faced difficult challenges which the Artbook revealed. Some of them are as follows.

The Secret Stones (artifacts) were originally designed in the form of dragon fetuses, leading to the Magatama form.

The green color was chosen for Zonai due to its connection with magic in the series.

Ganondorf is the Demon King and Cataclysm, and Gerudo stopped naming boys after Ganondorf.

Rauru and Sonnia must have a child to pass down magic in the royal family.

The initial idea for the depths was to have giant plants and animals along with darkness.

The design of the shrines is based on a Japanese purification ritual called Shimenawa.

The concept of a fight between a white dragon and a black dragon (final fight) was decided earlier.

The complete Artbook of Zelda: TOTK includes 464 pages in total and it is currently only available in Japan.
