The Lesser Evil is a Friendship Quest for Oswald that players can begin after completing the Now and Then quest which concludes the main story of A Rift in Time expansion pass. This guide will walk you through the Lesser Evil quest in Disney Dreamlight Valley.
How to Complete The Lesser Evil Quest in Disney Dreamlight Valley
Starting the Quest
The Lesser Evil quest doesn’t unlock itself when you complete the Now and Then quest. Instead, you have to initiate the quest by picking one of three ‘2D’ items scattered around Eternity Isle. You can find the 2D Cactus in Glittering Dunes (The Plains area), the 2D Tree in Wild Tangle (The Grasslands), or the 2D Statue in Ancient’s Landing (The Docks area).
Upon picking up any 2D item, the Lesser Evil quest will be initiated requiring you to speak with Oswald about the two-dimensional phenomenon you discovered.
Find all strange 2D objects in Eternity Isle and bring them to Merlin
After speaking with Oswald, you must find the rest of the 2D objects in Eternity Isle.
2D Object (Cactus) from the Plains.
2D Object (Tree) from the Grasslands.
2D Object (Statue) from the Docks.
Once you have picked up all 2D objects around Eternity Island, go to Merling and speak with him to give all the 2D objects.
Find Jafar’s research notes in the Palace Laboratory
After speaking with Merlin, head to Jafar’s Palace located north of Glittering Dunes, and make your way to the laboratory where you initially met the Raven during Jafar’s Laboratory quest. Go up to the workbenches in the laboratory and you will find all three research notes on the floor.
Upon finding the research notes, go back to Merlin to give him the notes.
Place the Lamp in the Statue of Time’s arm in the Cave of Wonders
Now, it’s time to break free Jafar from his lamp that you picked up during the Now and Then quest. Go to the Cave of Wonders located northwest of Eternity Isle in the Wastes area of the Glittering Dunes biome. Head inside the Cave of Wonders and make your way to the final room to reach the Statue of Time.
Interact with the Statue of Time to bring up the pedestal and then place Jafar’s Lamp on the pedestal. Once done, equip the Hourglass tool on the lamp to break free Jafar. Lastly, go through the dialogues with Jafar to conclude the Lesser Evil quest which will unlock Jafar as a villager.

Completing the Lesser Evil quest will give the following rewards to the players.

Unlock Jafar
