Black Myth: Wukong offers several side quests throughout each chapter that players can begin and complete to earn various rewards and uncover secrets. The Old Rattle-Drum quest is one of the side quests that players can undertake in Chapter 2: Yellow Sand, Desolate Dusk.
This guide will walk you through the Old Rattle-Drum quest in Black Myth: Wukong.
Old Rattle-Drum Quest Walkthrough – Black Myth: Wukong
The Old Rattle-Drum quest is initiated by obtaining the Old Rattle-Drum key item dropped by a mini-boss named Tiger’s Acolyte.
Starting the Old Rattle-Drum Quest
The Tiger’s Acolyte is found on a stone bridge near the Windrest Hamlet Keeper’s Shrine in the Yellow Wind Formation area. Continue straight from the shrine to reach the bridge and initiate the boss encounter. Defeat the Tiger’s Acolyte to get the Old Rattle-Drum key item with a description that it belongs to Acolyte’s son.
The main clue regarding this key item is that your vision will warp when you are in the same location as the boy’s ghost. However, there are three locations where you need to check for the boy’s lost soul.
Location #1 to Use the Old Rattle-Drum – Windrest Hamlet
The first location where you can use the Old Rattle-Drum key item is the town beside the Windrest Hamlet shrine. From the shrine, go to the right side to reach the town’s gate and then immediately turn left to get a ‘Use’ prompt. Using the drum will spawn Withering Corpses that you must defeat.
Location #2 to Use the Old Rattle-Drum – Windseal Gate
For the second location, go to the Windseal Gate shrine which you can reach by opening the gate in the Valley of Despair. From the shrine, continue straight on the path and turn right on the first fork to reach a bridge. Cross the bridge and turn left to cross beneath a building structure. As you cross it, your vision will change, and get the ‘Use’ prompt.
Use the Old Rattle-Drum key item which will spawn some more enemies in the area. Defeat the enemies and then move on to the next and final location.
Location #3 to Use the Old Rattle-Drum – Sandgate Village (Valley of Despair)
The final location is in Sandgate Village and the nearest shrine to the location is Valley of Despair. From the shrine, make your way to the village and continue straight on the path leading deep into the village. Go through the first door to reach an area where you can fight Earth Wolf and then go over to the statue on the right side before the second door.
Drop down on the path beside the statue and go towards the well ahead. It will change your vision and give you the ‘Use’ prompt. Upon using the drum, it will initiate a cutscene in which the boy will jump down the well.
Defeat the Mad Tiger – Secret Boss
The final step of the quest is to defeat the Mad Tiger who you can encounter in the well in which the boy jumped. Go over to the well and interact with it to jump down and start the boss fight.
Once you have defeated the Mad Tiger, you will be rewarded with Blood of the Iron Bull, Yaoguai Core, and Stone Spirit materials. Moreover, you can also absorb Mad Tiger’s spirit and pick up the Plaguebane Gourd from the wooden chest ahead.
