“Girl, we are just getting started.” Blue Fox Entertainment has unveiled an official trailer for a film titled Empire Waist, the feature directorial debut of filmmaker Claire Ayoub. This just premiered at the 2024 Seattle Film Festival a few months ago, and will open in theaters starting in September this fall. Inspired by the director’s own essay “Notes to My Twelve-Year-Old Self,” Empire Waist centers on Lenore (starring Mia Kaplan), a highschooler deeply insecure about her weight and desperate to make herself smaller wherever she goes. After a friendship blooms between her & Kayla, an extroverted and confident fellow plus-size teen, Lenore begins stepping outside of her shell and embracing who she really is inside. Despite warnings from her mother—a diet-obsessed woman struggling with her own insecurities—and cruel bullying by the popular crowd at school, Lenore builds up her group of friends who are all dealing with their own obstacles, and with them enters a fashion design contest.
