Progressing through the main story of the First Descendant will ultimately give you a quest called Joining Special Operations requiring you to complete the first interim review. The quest description shows that the location is in Sterile Land but doesn’t highlight the actual location from where to join the Special Operations which is making it quite confusing for a lot of players.

How to Join the Special Operations in The First Descendant
Joining the Special Operations is only possible through the Special Operations Terminal. It is located outside of the eastern wing in Albion and it has a Yellow/Orange Globe hovering over it. Upon landing in Albion, go to the left side to find the Special Operations Terminal. Access the terminal and it will show you the available special operation missions in all the regions. Here, you need to select the one in the Sterile Land called Sterile Land Kuiper Mine Blockade.
NOTE: There is currently no other way to join in the special operations and if you are trying to complete the Joining Special Operations, you have to join it through the Terminal in Albion.
Sterile Land Kuiper Mine Blockade is one of the most difficult missions in the game. The premise of the mission is to eliminate a total of 10 waves of enemies. The enemies will get stronger after each wave but offer rare rewards at the end. However, for the sake of the original quest, you are only required to complete the first wave.
Survive through the first wave and you will be brought to a screen where you can either Abort the mission or Continue it. Select the Abort option to leave the mission with all the gathered rewards and you will complete the quest.
