Messmer the Impaler is one of the main bosses featured in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree. He is the final boss of the Shadow Keep Legacy Dungeon that players will get to reach almost halfway through the DLC.
However, similar to other Legacy Dungeons, finding your way to the final boss can be a little bit confusing, and that is why we will be highlighting the path to reach Messmer the Impaler in this guide.
How to Find Messmer the Impaler in Shadow of the Erdtree
Messmer the Impaler is found inside the Dark Chamber located on top of the Shadow Keep Legacy Dungeon. However, before you begin your climbing in the Shadow Keep, you must have done the following.
Defeat Rellana, Twin Moon Knight to exit Castle Ensis.
Head north from the Highroad Cross Site of Grace to reach the main entrance of Shadow Keep.
Activate the elevator to go up and pick up the Main Gate Site of Grace.
Defeat Golden Hippopotamus and pick up the Main Gate Plaza Site of Grace.
Once you have reached the Main Gate Plaza Site of Grace, you need to begin climbing the floors of the Shadow Keep to reach the Dark Chamber Entrance Site of Grace. Follow the walkthrough section below to reach the Dark Chamber from the Main Gate Plaza.
Climbing Floors of the Shadow Keep to Reach Messmer the Impaler – Walkthrough
1. Reach Storehouse, First Floor Site of Grace
Head through the passageway on the left side of the Main Gate Plaza Site of Grace and follow along the staircases ahead to reach a large room.
Exit the room from the passageway at the back of the room and follow the path to the small bridge on the left side to reach the elevator.
Activate the elevator to go up and pick up the Storehouse, First Floor Site of Grace ahead.
2. Reach Storehouse, Fourth Floor Site of Grace
Go behind the statue in front to go up the small staircases and turn left.
Pass a couple of shelves and turn to the right to find a staircase.
Go up the staircase and then follow along the staircase ahead.
Turn right towards the Messmer Soldier and follow along the bridge to reach a hanging statue.
Jump on the feet of the statue and go ahead to its head and then jump on the area ahead to find Miquella’s Cross and reach the Storehouse, Fourth Floor Site of Grace.
3. Reach Storehouse, Seventh Floor Site of Grace
Go straight from the site of grace to reach the ledge and then go to the left side to go up a staircase.
Continue ahead to go up another staircase while avoiding the Messmer Soldier and continue ahead along the ledge to come across an archway on the left side.
Head through the archway and turn right to keep on going ahead until you reach the staircase.
Go up the staircases and turn around to reach the Storehouse, Seventh Floor Site of Grace.
4. Reach the Dark Chamber Entrance/Messmer the Impaler
Go out of the room and go down or jump down to the lower floor and go to the start of the floor to find a handle.
Interact with the handle to move the mechanism in the middle of the area.
Now, jump on the raised platform of the mechanism and go ahead to jump on the platform with the statue of the animal.
Go to its head to jump ahead in the archway and go out to the ledge.
Turn to the right side to go up the staircase and fight the Messmer Soldier.
Open the door ahead and go up the staircase to find the Dark Chamber Entrance Site of Grace.
Lastly, open the door in front of the grace to reach Messmer the Impaler.
As you open the door and enter inside, a cutscene will begin initiating the boss fight against Messmer the Impaler.
