Divine Beast Dancing Lion is the first main boss that you will probably encounter at the end of the first Legacy Dungeon called Belurat, Tower Settlement. The moveset of Dancing Lion is pretty unique and it can be quite challenging to get your hits in if you don’t know the openings. Moreover, the boss will switch among various phases throughout the fight where it uses Lightning, Frost, and Wind-based attacks.
This guide will help you how to defeat Divine Beast Dancing Lion in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree.
Where to Find Divine Beast Dancing Lion in Shadow of the Erdtree
The Divine Beast Dancing Lion is the final boss of the Belurat, Tower Settlement Legacy Dungeon. It is the first legacy Dungeon that you can access by going towards the west from the Three-Path Cross Site of Grace in the Gravesite Plain region. Upon accessing the Belurat, Tower Settlement, continue through the legacy dungeon to make your way to the Stagefront Site of Grace.
Beside this site of grace, you will see a giant door that you need to open and head inside to initiate a cutscene which will start the boss fight against Divine Beast Dancing Lion.
How to Defeat Divine Beast Dancing Lion in Shadow of the Erdtree | Best Strategies
The Divine Beast Dancing Lion gives a very small space for you to actually get a hit on it in the rush of its lunging and three-strike combo attacks right from the beginning. There are two ways through which you can defeat Divine Beast Dancing Lion easily in Shadow of the Erdtree.
The first method is to use the summon or spirit ashes to divert its attention from you allowing you to get your charged and special attacks on it.
The second method involves the use of the Rotten Breath incantation to deal damage to it over time.
Now, before you enter the arena to fight the Dancing Lion, there will be a summon sign on the floor that you can use to summon Redmane Freyja. However, keep in mind that calling the summon will increase the health of the Divine Beast Dancing Lion. Another great way to get some assistance is using the spirit ashes. The best spirit ash that you can use close to a summon is Mimic Tear. If your Mimic Tear is upgraded to a high level or maxed, using it will give you a lot of space to land your attacks on the boss.
Moreover, if you are going for the Rotten Breath strategy, using the Mimic Tear first will divert the attention of the Divine Beast to the Mimic Tear which will allow you to freely inflict the boss with Rot and deal damage to it over time.
Divine Beast Dancing Lion Moveset and Fight Strategy
Despite the strategies mentioned above, you need to learn its moveset and how to dodge it to find the openings for you to attack.
Lunging Attack with a Backflip Attack: The first main attack of the Dancing Lion that it does often during the fight is the lunging attack where it lunges toward you with its mouth open. You can easily dodge it by rolling at the time of impact and easily get a couple of light attacks in. However, roll away as soon as it goes back in the air for a backflip attack. Upon dodging the backflip attack, get your special attack on it.
Three-Strike Combo: Another attack that you need to look out for is the three-strike combo. It strikes twice and then follows up with a delayed strike. Make sure to roll to the side to avoid the strikes and then get your hits on it.
Spinning Attack: One of its special attacks is the spinning attack where it spins in the air twice to do a strike on the ground and then changes it into a breath attack. You need to roll at the time of impact to dodge the strike and then either run away from the breath attack or roll to the side to avoid getting hit by the breath.
Grab Attack: The Dancing Lion will open and close its mouth twice before lunging onto you to grab you. Roll to the side to avoid getting caught by the grab attack and you will be able to get a couple of hits on it.
Apart from these attacks in the initial phase, it will combine the strike attacks with backflip attacks which can be easily dodged by rolling at the perfect time. Moreover, it also uses the breath attack from a distance which you can avoid by running to the side. Just don’t forget the openings to get your hits on it and if you are using the Mimic Tear or the summon, take advantage of them to strike it from behind.
Upon depleting its HP by about 40%, it will switch to Lightning Phase. During this phase, most of its attacks will remain the same but they will be imbued with lightning.
Lightning Bolts: It will throw two lightning bolts at you so roll to the side and run out of the AOE of lightning to avoid the delayed lightning strikes.
Keep on repeating the process of dodging its attacks and only attack when there is no nearby lightning effect, otherwise you will get caught by the lightning. As the fight goes on, it will switch to Frost (Ice) state where it almost has the same attacks with an additional attack of stomping the ground and covering it with ice shards. Similar to the previous phase, all of its attacks will be imbued with Frost but it will be easier for you to get your attacks on it as there will be no delayed frost effect on its attacks.
Lastly, it will switch to the wind state where again, all of its attacks remain the same but gain two additional attacks. One is where it spins to create a whirlwind that can be dodged by rolling to the side or running away from it. Another attack is its tail attack imbued with whirlwind so make sure to roll to the side to dodge it.
Don’t get greedy in this fight as there aren’t many openings to deal damage to the boss. If you try to hit it without a proper opening, you will trade the hits which might not end well for you. Make sure to take advantage of the summon and Mimic Tear if you are using them, and use the Rotten Breath incantation from time to time.
