Mohg, Lord of Blood is one of the Demigod bosses in Elden Ring and probably one of the hardest bosses in the entire game. As the name suggests, he is indeed a Lord of Blood with Bleed and Fire attacks combined that can take you out in a couple of hits and even in a single hit if you aren’t strong enough.

However, it is better to face Mohg, Lord of Blood with a proper setup containing items that can help you avoid his Blood Curse and even tie him down to the ground for a few good seconds to let you take advantage of the moment in the fight.

This guide will help you defeat Mohg, Lord of Blood by highlighting the important items to use in the fight along with tips and tricks in the Elden Ring.

Mohg, Lord of Blood Boss Guide

Where to Find Mohg, Lord of Blood in Elden Ring

Mohg, Lord of Blood is found in the Mohgwyn Dynasty Mausoleum located in the Underground region of the world map. It is a part of the main section called Mohgwyn Palace which can be reached by either completing Varre quest (Early Game) or taking a portal in the Consecrated Snowfield (Late Game).

You can find a detailed guide here on how to reach Mohgwyn Palace in Elden Ring.

Upon reaching the Mohgwyn Palace, make your way up to the Mohgwyn Dynasty Mausoleum Midpoint Grace and you will find Mohg by going up the elevator ahead.

Best Setup for Mohg, Lord of Blood Boss Fight

Now, before you encounter Mohg, it is best to first get a couple of things that will help you greatly in defeating him easily. The first item that you need to get is the Purifying Crystal Tear. It has the ability to negate the Lord of Blood’s curse (Nihil attack). You can get this crystal tear by defeating the invader named Eleonora, Violet Bloody Finger found at the Second Church of Marika in Altus Plateau.

The second item that you need to get is Mohg’s Shackle. Similar to Margit’s Shackle, it can be used to slam Mohg to the floor for a few seconds allowing you to deal a great amount of damage to him. You can find this item in the Subterranean Shunning-Grounds located beneath the Leyndell Royal Capital. Make your way down in the Subterranean Shunning-Grounds from the pipes to drop down to a puddle where you will encounter two Giant Crayfish. Run past them or kill them to pick up the Mohg’s Shackle placed against the wall.

Apart from these two weapons, you must be at least Level 120+ to both tank the incoming damage and deal enough damage on each strike. With these items equipped, you can run your current build to comfortably fight Mohg as you will be disrupting him twice with Mohg’s Shackle in the first phase, and using the Physick Flask to negate the Blood Curse at the start of the second phase. However, if you are running a Bleed build, it will be more efficient as the Lord of Blood himself is weak against bleed. So, use the Blood Grease or the Bloodflame Blade Incantation on your weapon to build up blood loss on Mohg and deal an extensive amount of damage. Moreover, if you have the Mimic Tear with you, it will be a lot easier for you.

Tips & Tricks for Defeating Mohg, Lord of Blood Easily

Mohg, Lord of Blood can be a quite difficult enemy to tackle but there are some tricks that you can do during the fight to leave him open for you to attack him. Follow the steps mentioned below to defeat Mohg easily.

Upon passing through the fog, summon the Mimic Tear and put on the Blood Grease or Bloodflame Blade incantation on your weapon. If you don’t have these items or don’t want to use Mimic Tear, go in front of him and roll forward to dodge the strike and use the R2 attack (special).

For the first few moments, keep attacking him normally and as soon as you see the first red ring on your character, use the Mohg Shackle to down him.

Deal as much damage as you can while he is down and if you have the Rotten Breath on you, use it to inflict him with Scarlet Rot which will deal damage to him over time.

Now, repeat the process of attacking him and dodging his attack normally until you see the second ring on your character or you can wait just before his health reaches 50% to use the Mohg Shackle again.

Deal a great amount of damage to him again he will probably enter his second phase where your screen will turn red for a few seconds and he will begin the Nihil Attack.

As soon as you have the third ring on your character, it means the second phase has begun and you can’t use Mohg Shackle again. You need to use the Wondrous Physick Flask to have the Purifying Crystal Tear in effect to negate the blood curse.

While he is doing Nihil, he will still heal despite the purifying crystal tear. However, you need to stay close to him and keep dealing damage to him to prevent him from healing too much.

For the second phase, you need to be quick on rolling for his attacks as he will be a bit more aggressive. If he flies above, get under him and roll forward to dodge the aerial attack and get around him to deal damage to him.

All of his ground attacks will stay the same so remember the pattern to dodge them perfectly and punish him after each attack.

Rinse and repeat to defeat Mohg, Lord of Blood.

A few other things that is worth mentioning regarding Mohg’s attacks are his blood attacks. He will mainly use two blood attacks throughout the whole fight where he will throw the blood at you when you are at a medium distance from him and open a pool of blood when you are close to him. For the throwing blood, it is better to roll backward and wait for the fire to extinguish to push him, and for the pool of blood, roll to his backside to punish him with a single or a couple of strikes.

Rewards

Upon defeating Mohg, Lord of Blood you will be rewarded with the following items.

420,000 Runes

Mohg’s Great Rune

Remembrance of the Blood Lord

Moreover, Mohg, Lord of Blood is also mandatory to defeat for accessing the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC.
