Elden Ring’s DLC, The Shadow of the Erdtree is just around the corner calling players to embark into the Shadow Realm with exclusive new weapon types to acquire and enemies to defeat. However, purchasing the DLC won’t simply let you in the Shadow Realm as it can only be accessed by interacting with Miquella’s hand in a cocoon located inside Mohgwyn’s Palace.
This guide will help you how to access the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC in Elden Ring.
How to Access the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC in Elden Ring
Venturing into the Shadow Realm of Elden Ring’s DLC requires players to interact with Miquella’s hand in a cocoon located inside Mohgwyn’s Palace. Miquella’s cocoon was originally stolen by Mohg, the Lord of Blood from Elphael, Brace of the Haligtree where Malenia is encountered and he kept the cocoon beside him in his palace.
Now, Mohgwyn Palace is located in the Underground Region and it is part of a main section called Mohgwyn Dynasty Mausoleum, and before you access the DLC, you will first have to reach Mohgwyn Dynasty Mausoleum to make your way to Mohgwyn’s Palace and then defeat Mohg, the Lord of Blood.
Both of these are mandatory steps and below you will find all the methods to reach Mohgwyn Palace in Elden Ring.
How to Reach Mohgwyn Palace in Elden Ring – Early Game
There are two main ways to reach Mohgwyn Palace in Elden Ring which include the Early Game method and the Late Game method. The Early Game method can be started as soon as players have defeated Godrick the Grafted and acclaimed his Great Rune. Upon defeating Godrick, head to the Roundtable Hall and speak with Enia located in a room with the Two Fingers.
Begin Varre’s Quest at Rose Church
After speaking with Enia, you will be able to begin Varre’s quest at the Rose Church in Liurnia of the Lakes region. The nearest site of Grace from Rose Church is Fallen Ruins of the Lake located east of the church. Make your way to Rose Church and speak with Varre standing outside the church. Go through the dialogues and choose the first dialogue option to initiate the quest and he will give you the 5x Festering Bloody Finger.
Invade Three Worlds
The Festering Bloody Fingers are used for invading other players and for the next step of the quest, you need to invade three worlds. It does not matter if you win, lose, or even close the session by leaving their world, it would still count as an invasion for the quest. To use the Festering Bloody Finger, head over to any place in the Lands Between and open the inventory to use it.
After invading three worlds, head back to Varre at the Rose Church and speak with him. Select the first dialogue option and he will give you Lord of Blood’s Favor.
Soak the Lord of Blood’s Favor in Maiden’s Blood
The next step of the quest is to soak the Lord of Blood’s Favor in Maiden’s Blood. You can find a maiden in the Chapel of Anticipation which is the starting point of the game. To get to the Chapel of Anticipation, you need to head to Four Belfries and activate the portal under the third tower. Activating the portal will require the Imbued Sword Key which fortunately can be found inside the chest under the top tower at Four Belfries.
Take the portal to the Chapel of Anticipation and defeat the Grafted Scion, the tutorial boss of the game. Once done, run to the chapel and as you enter inside, look to the left side to find a dead maiden. Interact with her to soak the cloth in blood. Now, go back to Varre at the Rose Church and speak with him.
Use the Pureblood Knight’s Medal
Upon speaking with Varre after completing the Lord of Blood’s Favor, he will cut one of your fingers which will conclude the quest. After that, speak with him again and he will give you the Pureblood Knight’s Medal. Now, the only thing remaining is to use this medal and you will be teleported to the Mohgwyn Dynasty Mausoleum.
From here, continue ahead to pick up the Mohgwyn Palace map off the body in front and go up the staircase to rest at the Grace. After that, you need to continue on the path ahead to go into the crypt and come out of it from the top side to find another Grace. This site of Grace is directly beneath Mohg, the Lord of Blood boss fight so all you have to do is now take the elevator up to fight Mohg.
How to Reach Mohgwyn Palace in Elden Ring – Late Game
The late-game method to reach the Mohgwyn Palace does not require the completion of any quest but use of a simple portal. However, the portal you need to use is located in the Consecrated Snowfield region. It is an end-game region in Elden Ring that is accessed through the Grand Lift of Rold upon using the Haligtree Secret Medallion.
How to Get Haligtree Secret Medallion Pieces
Similar to other medallions, this secret medallion is also divided into a left piece and a right piece which you have to get both in order to reach the Consecrated Snowfield.
Haligtree Secret Medallion (Right): The right piece of the secret medallion is found in the Village of Albinaurics located in the swamp camp west of Liurnia of the Lakes. Once there, head up the ridge and go past a couple of shacks and you will see a pot on the right side. Roll into the pot to reveal an NPC who will hand over you the right piece of Haligtree Secret Medallion.
Haligtree Secret Medallion (Left): The left piece of the secret medallion is found on the top of Castle Sol in the Mountaintops of the Giants region. However, getting the medallion will require you to defeat Commander Niall on the rooftop of Castle Sol. Once you have defeated the boss, continue ahead to take the elevator to the top and you will find the medallion sitting on the roof alongside a ghost.
After obtaining both pieces of Haligtree Secret Medallion, go to the Grand Lift of Rold and switch the medallion to the secret medallion, and then interact with the lift to get to Consecrated Snowfield.
Portal to Mohgwyn Palace
Once you are in the Consecrated Snowfield, make your way to the first site of Grace in the area which will be the Inner Consecrated Snowfield. From there, you need to head directly in the west direction to reach the corner of the region where you will find the portal. It will take a few moments to reach but as soon as you see red flowers on the ground, just know that you are close.
The portal will be covered in blood as well and upon using the portal, it will teleport you to a cave. As you come out of the cave, you will reach Mohgwyn Palace near the Site of Grace of infamous Rune farming spot.
How to Defeat Mohg, Lord of Blood
Upon making your way to the Mohgywn Dynasty Mausoleum, the only thing standing between you and accessing the DLC is Mohg, Lord of Blood. Mohg, Lord of Blood is one of the hardest bosses in the game and there is no point fighting him in the early levels. You must be at least Level 120+ to have a chance of defeating him.
Despite what build you have currently, it is essential that you use Purifying Crystal Tear in a Mixed Physick to purify Lord of Blood’s curse. It will remove the blood loss rings from your character and negate all of the damage from the attack. However, Mohg will still replenish some of his health back but if you keep attacking him while he is doing the curse, you can deal extensive amount of damage to him.
Once you have defeated Mohg, Lord of Blood, head over to the hand of Miquella coming out of a cocoon to access The Shadow of the Erdtree DLC.
The Shadow of the Erdtree DLC will be available on June 21st, 2024 on all platforms.
