Exegesis is the third story mission of The Final Shape expansion in Destiny 2 that becomes available after completing the Temptation mission. This guide will walk you through how to complete the Exegesis quest in Destiny 2.

How to Start the Exegesis Quest
To start the third main quest of The Final Shape, open the menu and head over to the Quests tab to find the Exegesis quest. Track it and follow the objective marker to reach the starting point of the quest. Once there, hold down the interaction key to begin the mission and when the quest window opens up, select the Launch option.
Locate Ikora’s Ship
Follow the objective marker to reach a locked door ahead. Pick up the Crystalline Key near the door and place it on the holder beside the door to unlock it. Continue ahead and drop down to see a blocked path ahead. Eliminate the enemies to pick up the darkness orb and put it on the Dark Fount to open the path.
Go into the room ahead and clear out a wave of enemies. Shoot the orbs against the window to remove the thorns and then scan the view ahead.
Empower the Light Fount
Pick up the Light Motes Relic from the middle of the room and then bash the shield in the direction of Light Fount to open the path on the left side. Drop down to the open path and continue ahead to find a locked door.
Empower the Founts
Here, you will find both the Darkness and Light Founts that you need to empower using the respective motes. Firstly, you need to defeat the Dread enemies in the area to pick up the Darkness Motes and deliver them to the Dark Fount to empower it. Once it is activated, the Light Relic will spawn.
Pick up the Light Relic and deliver it to the Light Fount. Now, defeat the rest of the enemies in the area and a barrier will open revealing a Crystalline Key. Pick up the Crystalline Key and place it on the holder beside the door to unlock it.
Untangle Founts of Light and Darkness
As you continue ahead, you will reach another area with more Founts of Light and Darkness. This time you need to untangle them, meaning empower them in order. To find the correct order for the founts, go near each fount to see the number of beams of light. If a fount has two beams of light on it, it means you need to activate it in the second place.
There are four Founts in total two of which are Light and two of them are dark. You will be activating them in Light, Dark, Light, and then Dark. For the first one, pick up the Crystalline Key and place it on the holder to open a barrier to find the Light Relic. Empower the first Light Relic and then defeat the enemies to get Dark Motes Relic and activate the second. It will appear a Light Relic in the area, pick it up and empower the third Fount. Lastly, defeat more enemies to get the Dark Motes Relic and activate the final Fount.
Investigate the Crash
After untangling all the Founts, the crash site will be unlocked. Head towards the crash site and go up to the ship to investigate it.
Defeat the Pillar of Silence
Upon investigating the ship, continue ahead and you will encounter the Pillar of Silence. Pick up the Light Relic and use its shield-breaking projectile attack to remove the shield of the Pillar of Silence. Once the shield is gone, deal damage to it, and as soon as the first portion of its health depletes, it will flee from the area.
Continue following the objective marker to eventually reach a cavern area where you will encounter the Pillar of Silence again. For this time, you need to empower the Light and the Dark Founts located above. Doing so will reveal the Light Relic in the area. After that, use the light Relic to break its shield and deal damage to it until it flees again.
Once he has fled from the area, empower the Founts again and it will appear back along with the Light Relic. Pick up the Light Relic to destroy its shield using the projectile and then deal damage to it until it finally tastes the dust.
Defeat the Witness’s Forces
After defeating Pillar of Silence, continue ahead on the revealed path to make your way out of the cavern area and you will encounter several enemies. Defeat all the enemies along with the Tormentor in the area to continue ahead.
Locate Ikora
Once you have defeated the Witness’s Force, continue ahead to find Ikora near a ledge. Go and speak with her which will initiate a cutscene and conclude the quest.
