Fallout 4 Next Gen Update contains all new quests for players to undertake and obtain all new Power Armor along with new weapons and Outfits. One of the newly added quests in Fallout 4 is Crucible requiring players to investigate an ironworks factory that is run by a group called Forged and acclaim one of the newly added weapons called Heavy Incinerator.
This guide will walk you through each step of the Crucible quest in Fallout 4.
How to Complete the Crucible Quest in Fallout 4
How to Start the Crucible Quest
The Crucible Quest starts automatically when you load into the game after updating your game to Next Gen Update. You will see the quest pop-up for Crucible on the left side when you load in and if you aren’t following any quest at the moment, the quest marker will also be displayed on the map. However, you can also follow the quest through the Quests menu of your Pip-Boy.
Investigate Saugus Ironworks
The Saugus Ironworks factory is located on the eastern side of the map in the Commonwealth. Follow the objective marker on the map or you can fast travel to The Slog location and head south to reach the factory. Upon reaching the factory, there will be several Forged soldiers guarding the entrance that you need to take them out.
Once done, enter the factory and deal with the rest of the Forged soldiers inside. Eliminate the soldiers and continue ahead to find a locked door beside the terminal. Interact with the terminal and open the door to find a couple of more soldiers in the lower area. Eliminate them as well and one of them will drop a note.
Pick up the Forged Keeper’s Note and Read it
Head over to the marked Forged body and loot the Keeper’s Note. Open the Inventory and switch to the Miscellaneous section to find the Forged Keeper’s Note. Select it to read the note and learn about the hidden evidence placed inside a toolbox.
Search the Keeper’s Toolbox
Head over to the next objective marker to find the Keeper’s Toolbox. Interact with it and use a Bobby Pin to unlock it. Loot all of the contents of the Toolbox including the Forged Recruit’s Note and the Smelter Console Password.
Open the inventory and switch to the Miscellaneous section to find and read the Forged Recruit’s Note. The note will mention the flame-resistant armor leg mod buried under the crucibles that can be used to get the Heavy Incinerator weapon.
Turn off the flow of molten metal
Go to the lower area and press the button on the pillar beside the crucible. It will shut off the flow of molten metal giving you access to the Smelter Console.
Use the Smelter Console to move the Crucible
Now, go back up and interact with the Smelter Console. The password you picked up earlier from the toolbox will let you inside the console. Here, select the “Move Crucible” option to move the crucible.
Retrieve the buried items
Head back down to the moved crucible location and you will find a buried spot. Interact with it and loot everything including the Flame Resistant Left Leg and the Flame Resistant Right Leg. These are the blueprints for the Flame Resistant Armor Legs mod.
Craft the mods and retrieve the Heavy Incinerator
Since the mods you looted are not actually the crafted ones, you have to craft the mods first using the Power Armor Station. The Power Armor Station is located to the right so go ahead and interact with it to start crafting the Flame Resistant mod for each Armor Leg. Select the Left and the Right Armor Leg and switch to Misc. Mod to find the blueprints. Crafting each Armor Leg will require the following materials.
5 Adhesive
6 Asbestos
6 Ballistic fiber
3 Rubber
However, since it is a part of the main quest, regardless of the materials at your disposal, you can craft both Flame Resistant Armor Legs for free. Equip the Flame Resistant Armor Legs on the Power Armor and then hop in the Power Armor.
Go to the open smelter ahead and step inside to pick up the Heavy Incinerator weapon. Picking up the Heavy Incinerator weapon will conclude the Crucible quest.
Rewards
Completing the Crucible quest will give the following rewards.
480 EXP
Heavy incinerator weapon
