“‘Historically accurate’ is subjective.” Apple TV has unveiled a funny promo featurette for the wacky British comedy series The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin, launching streaming to watch on March 1st (this weekend!!). Noel Fielding stars Dick Turpin, the most dangerous highway robber of the 18th century. It’s based on a true story. Sort of. This comedy series is a fictional take on the life of highway robber Dick Turpin – originally Richard Turpin, an English highwayman whose exploits were romanticised following his execution in York for horse theft. By the early 1730s, he had joined a gang of deer thieves and, later, became a poacher, burglar, horse thief and killer. This is his story. Though it’s all made up, at least most of it is, and some of it isn’t. Co-starring alongside Fielding in the ensemble cast: Ellie White, Marc Wootton, Duayne Boachie, Hugh Bonneville, Tamsin Greig, Asim Chaudhry, Dolly Wells, Joe Wilkinson, Mark Heap, Samuel Leakey, and Kiri Flaherty.
