Torch is one of the starting tools for your character’s equipment and it is one of the most useful tools as it is used to illuminate darkness. Darkness gives a debuff to your character which gradually builds up over time inflicting your character with even more hazardous debuffs. You must stay in the light area instead of the dark area to prevent debuff and having a torch in your hand is the first step.

How to Craft a Torch in The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria
Moria is a treacherous place in the Lord of the Rings world and you will get to start your journey directly in the depths of Moria filled with darkness. Once you get control of your dwarf character, you will be tasked to craft a torch. Crafting a torch is very basic and only requires 1x Wood Scraps.
Wood Scraps can be found on the ground throughout Moria that you can pick up and store in your inventory by pressing the E button. Alternatively, you can also get Wood Scraps by breaking the wooden furniture found throughout Moria. Breaking Barrels, Carts, Wooden Stands, etc. with an Axe weapon will allow you to get more wood scraps.
However, initially, you will only be able to get the Wood Scraps from the ground. Search the starting area to find the Wood Scraps on the ground and once you have acquired some Wood Scraps, press the C Button to open the Field Crafting menu. Field Crafting allows you to craft anywhere and does not require any kind of crafting station. In the start, you will only have the recipe for the Torch so, select the recipe and then craft it to get a Torch.
The torch will be added to the quick inventory slot through which you can equip the torch by pressing the respective key button. Equipping the torch automatically lights up the torch illuminating a small area in your character’s surroundings.
Keep in mind that every tool, weapon, and armor has a durability bar in the game and the Torch is no different. As you equip the Torch, its durability will gradually decrease so when it runs out of durability, it will break and you will be required to craft another one to keep the darkness away.
