Hello everyone, and welcome to the week! It’s time once again for our look back at the noteworthy updates of the last seven days. We’ve got a nice mix of Apple Arcade, free-to-play, and even a proper paid game. We don’t see those often! So yes, a rather nicely-rounded list of new updates to dig into. Of course, you can keep an eye out for updates yourself by participating in the TouchArcade forums. This weekly summary is just here to fill you in on the things you might have missed. Let’s go for it!
Warped Kart Racers,
The 20th Television kart racer gets some new goodies to dig into with this update. Play the new chapter and you can unlock Klaus, which I think is the fish from American Dad. You can also enjoy a new track in the form of the Smiths’ Dreamworld. The developers have added private lobbies to multiplayer, and Legend AI to free play. Tournaments have been lowered to three rounds, allowing you to wrap them up a little quicker. Layer on some bug fixing and general improvements, and that’s the lot.
Asphalt 8: Airborne+,
New to the Apple Arcade Asphalt 8 Airborne+ (gosh that is a lot of As) are Daily Tasks, which are things you can do each day to get rewards. I like it, could be a big future in it. There are also some new cars including the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, Sbarro Sparta, and more. Oh, and just for downloading this update you get your hands on an Ariel Atom V8. More reasons for doing that Vroom-Vroom thing, in case you need something other than just enjoying the racing action.
Gear.Club Stradale,
Lots of racing game updates this week. Hm. Well, that sometimes happens. You get fifteen tracks in the new Alps environment, two new Smash on Alps tracks, some new customization features, a reward wall where you can check out the various rewards you’ve earned, some changes to the competitive game mode, a new Retry button, some new cars, and a bunch of bug fixes. It’s actually quite a lot to sift through, so if you like the general track Gear.Club lays down you’ll probably like this update a lot.
Badland Party,
Okay, this one isn’t a racing game. We’ve broken the cycle. There’s a new Singularity level pack with the first five levels playing after you complete the first Forest level. There are new leaderboards to go with these new levels, naturally. There are fifteen new characters to unlock, some balance adjustments for the challenge levels, and various other small tweaks and fixes. Sorry, I’m light on jokes this week. I either slept too much or too little. Funny bone is broken.
Air Twister,
This cool Apple Arcade homage to Space Harrier has received a pretty significant update, adding a limited time event that will run until October 21st. If you complete it, you’ll get some new outfit items and weapon skins. There’s a new Extra Stage to play, the new ultra-challenging Tap Breaker: Tap 36 (Hard), and a number of fixes related to iOS 16. Get ready!
Jetpack Joyride, Free
The Ghostbusters are back in Jetpack Joyride, and I presume at least some of this is new. You can get Vinz, Zuul, and Mooglie, unlock the Slime Blower jetpack for free, and enjoy the destructive power of the Terror Dog. Oh, it’s kind of a villains thing this time. You can also get the Dr. Barry Buster costume, the Proton Pack, Slimer, and Filing Cabinet jetpacks, the Ecto-1, some new vehicle skins, and some new backgrounds. Cool.
MARVEL Future Fight, Free
Oh gosh, here come those symbiotes again. The latest version of Marvel Future Fight adds a couple of new playable characters to the roster in the form of Gorr and Toxin, with some spiffy new uniforms for Venom, Agent Venom, and Scream. Alliance Battle gets a new Legend difficulty to try, too. Venom hits a mighty Tier-4, Gorr goes all the way to Tier-3, and Agent Venom, Toxin, and Scream all get their Potential Transcending added. Do symbiotes count as spiders? I’m going to. That means this gets the coveted UMMSotW award for this week, because that is definitely a lot of Spider-Man derived characters.
CSR 2 Drag Racing Car Games, Free
Back to the racing games again. CSR 2 continues its tribute to American car culture with more cars and locations in this updated version. You’ll race through Nashville and Indianapolis in cars like the Czinger 21C, Dodge Challenger MOPAR Drag Pak, NASCAR Next Gen Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, and more. On top of the American stuff, you’ve also got the Pagani x Lamborghini Duality event, with some new Pagani and Lamborghini Roadsters to drive. There are a few other bits and bobs here, but I’ll let you investigate on your own if you’re interested.
Streets of Rage 4, $8.99
Forgive me for more or less copying the update notes here, but they really do tell the whole story: “Roo is now unlockable”. Roo. Roo is now unlockable. You can unlock Roo, and play as Roo. As updates go, it’s perhaps one that looks small on paper. But in practice? Roo is now unlockable.
Subway Surfers, Free
We’ll finish this up with a look at the latest stop on the world tour of the Subway Surfers. This time, they are headed to Mumbai. They’ll meet new surfer Alia and the new Aero Fish Board, then team up with Mala and ride the rails of Mumbai on the Maple Leaf Board. Andy gets a new Great Outdoors outfit, and there’s a new Play 2 Plant Challenge that will reward you with a free Leaf Board.
That about wraps it up for last week’s significant updates. I’m sure I’ve missed some, though, so please feel free to comment below and let everyone know if you think something should be mentioned. As usual, major updates will likely get their own news stories throughout this week, and I’ll be back next Monday to summarize and fill in the blanks. Have a great week!
